I got my first dog when I was 18, a large lab named Bogey, and I immediately took on full responsibility for his care and training. From that point on, I managed his daily needs, structure, and behavior while also navigating college life. That experience taught me consistency, patience, and how to stay attuned to an animal’s cues, energy, and emotional needs in a real-world, hands-on way. Growing up, I also had a cat, which helped shape my comfort and understanding of different animal temperaments and communication styles. I’ve always loved cats and still hope to have one again in the future, but I’m waiting for the right time. In the meantime, not having a cat of my own actually allows me to fully enjoy time with other people’s pets and be more present with them. I’m very comfortable caring for animals of different sizes and personalities, especially big dogs, and I naturally take on a calm, attentive, and responsible role in their care. I also find that my ability to stay grounded, patient, and observant translates well into understanding both animal behavior and human behavior.
