For the most part, we are very flexible when it comes to scheduling. I work from home almost all the time and, if needed, my husband can fill in.

We have a fenced-in yard that can be used for playtime as well as quick bathroom breaks whenever needed. We tend to be homebodies, especially when a dog is around, but if we do have to go out, we can confine them to a certain area of the house with gates or we can crate them if needed (we even have extra crates we've accumulated over the years). Dogs usually end up sleeping with me, but we can also crate them when that makes more sense.

Information Ann & Jim N. would like to know about your pet
Please let me know ahead of time about any particular quirks or special needs of your dog. Most issues will likely be manageable if you can share ahead of time. We live in a multi-floor home, but can easily accommodate dogs who can't do stairs.
A typical day
A typical day begins with an immediate trip to our fenced-in backyard for potty and a few laps around the yard, followed by breakfast and any meds. Dogs receive a minimum of two good walks a day (midday and dinnertime), up to four (morning and evening). Of course, what constitutes a good walk depends on the dog's needs. Potty/play breaks out back are as needed/requested by the dog. Typically, I work in the living room on my laptop. We have a huge container of dog toys and games that our canine guests can enjoy. I take frequent breaks to act as a play partner

Lots of love and a fenced in yard!
Pet care experience
I’ve been a dog lover my entire life, having grown up with dogs who meant the world to me and helped me through some tough moments as a kid. One of my earliest memories is when I was three years old and my parents brought home a tiny black lab puppy. My love for dogs started there and has only grown since. Over the years, I’ve gained extensive hands-on experience through animal rescue and fostering. I’ve volunteered with animal rescue organizations, including two stints at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, where I worked closely with dogs of many breeds, ages, and temperaments. I’ve also served as a volunteer interviewer for prospective adopters and conducted home safety checks, giving me a strong understanding of what makes a safe, loving environment for pets. A few years ago, I attended an intensive five day dog massage therapy course in Ohio. I am an experienced foster mother for rescue dogs and have cared for many dogs in our Arlington home. My husband and I previously shared our lives with two beloved dogs, Sarah (who passed in July 2023) and Shadow (who passed in November 2024). Since then, we’ve continued to care for dogs through fostering and dog sitting, and we truly love having dogs around. Dogs in my care receive plenty of attention, companionship, and supervision. We have a fully fenced backyard for breaks and fetching games, provide regular walks, and keep lots of doggie toys and enrichment activities on hand. Field trips to the Fells and other nearby dog hot spots are not unusual. I’m also comfortable administering medications and following any special care instructions. Dogs in our care are treated like precious family and will never be short on love, playtime, or snuggles.
Reviews

Ann was a wonderful sitter for Maisy. We had a complex situation because our dog had some health concerns arise right before her stay but Ann was very reassuring and gave Maisy lots of loving care and support. She is clearly very experienced and had some good insight and resources to offer more generally about our aging dog's situation. Thanks Ann!

Ann and Jim took great care of Amos! They were a good match for his very active, outside loving self. He came home, happy and exhausted in the best way. I will be rebooking!

Mars had a wonderful time with Ann & Jim! They sent lots of photos, took him on adventures at the fells and walks featuring lots of fetch! He was happy to be there and came home tired and happy 🤗

It was such a good experience to leave Mailé with you!
