Safety and trust are very important to me when caring for pets. I always try to maintain each pet’s normal routine as closely as possible, including feeding schedules, exercise, medications, and any specific instructions from the owner. With my background working around sled dogs and active breeds, I’m very mindful of leash safety, secure gates and doors, weather conditions, and reading animal behavior. I pay close attention to changes in appetite, energy, or behavior that owners may want to know about. When caring for pets in a client’s home, I treat the space respectfully. My goal is to provide a calm presence while the owner is away. I also believe communication is important, and I’m happy to provide updates and photos during visits or stays.

I like to know about each pet’s normal routine, personality, energy level, and any medical needs ahead of time. It’s also helpful to know about leash behavior, anxiety, reactivity, feeding schedules, favorite activities, and anything else that helps them feel comfortable while their owner is away.
A typical day
Walks, playing fetch, puzzle toys and treats, sniffing out the latest activity in the neighborhood, or just getting lots of pets could all be part of a typical day - I want to tailor my care to what the pet would benefit from most, considering their abilities, interests, and typical routine.

I’ve been working with dogs in Alaska since 2014, including sled dog kennel experience and caring for pets in their own homes. I’m most familiar with huskies and other active breeds, and I’m comfortable administering medications, including insulin. I’ve also had four senior dogs of my own over the years, so I have a soft spot in my heart for "oldies" and understand the extra patience, routine, and gentle care older pets often need. While most of my hands-on experience in my adult life has been with dogs, I grew up with cats and I'm very comfortable following detailed care instructions and providing calm, reliable care for cats as well.

Over the ten years I had my dog, Andrea watched her for many weeks at a time. And sometimes when I returned home, it seemed my dog was happy to stay with Andrea instead of coming home with me! Andrea treats all pets as her own and has a soft spot especially for animals that have additional needs. She is gentle but firm with dogs that need discipline, setting good boundaries and implementing scientifically proven methods of behavioral correction. She is passionate about providing a safe home for all animals and meeting them where they are at. She has always been my go-to person for dog sitting due to her professionalism, experience, continuing self-education, and love for animals.
