About Maximus James (Max)

My Max is a beautiful Black Lab that we adopted when he was almost a year old from a military family who was getting ready to move to LA and they weren't sure they could take him with them. We had been looking for our perfect puppy match, and when we met him we fell in love! He was very hyper when we first got him and loved to jump on people, but after some serious work we have all but broken him of that habit; he has learned that if he wants lovin's he needs to sit and that works much better than jumping in our guests faces! He also had the most severe case of separation anxiety I have ever seen in a dog; if we put him in a crate while we ran to the store he would drool puddles in the crate and get himself so worked up it scared us. We tried shutting him in our laundry room instead of crating him while we were gone as it was a much bigger space (his previous owners said they had problems with him chewing) but he would scratch at the door and stand there and drool puddles as well. At one point he almost came through our laundry room door he worked himself up so much. So one day, we decided to just give him free reign of the house while we made a quick shopping trip, and when we came home, he greeted us at the back door, tail wagging, just the happiest puppy you have ever seen. I don’t know what his previous owners did to him, but we have had him for two years and besides the occasional trash can incident, we have never had any issues with him chewing. He is just the best behaved dog! He still doesn’t like to be left inside alone if we are out in the yard working and need to leave him inside for some reason, but he’s gotten so much better. I guess a little work and a lot of love will help make a great dog!

Usually he will go to the door and touch the knob with his nose if he needs to go outside and go potty. He is able to hold it for at least 8 hours as long as he is let out in the morning to do his business.
  • Gets along with children: Yes
Never had ANY issues with him and children. We got him when our youngest was almost 5 and he's been around children as young as 1.5 and he's nothing but a puppy with them; chases balls if they throw them and plays soccer with my older children.
  • Gets along with other dogs: Yes
He is a complete sweetheart!! He has gotten along with my sisters labs and her long haired chihuahua (think he's actually a little scared of her), my moms boxer, my dads pitt/lab mix and all of the neighborhood dogs we come across on our walks. He just wants someone to play with at all times!
  • Gets along with cats: Yes
Max loves our kitties, he gives them baths and plays tag with them, silly dog.

About Marley

Marley is the lap dog I never knew I wanted. I dogsat her and her sister (and their mommy) when they were only 4 weeks old and I fell in love! She is a bundle of energy and an endless source of entertainment. She loves to play with our kids and her big brothers (Hunter is such a sweet, patient older brother; he will lay on the floor and let Marley chew on his face but he never tries to bite her back), and she enjoys snuggling when she gets sleepy. I have spoiled her rotten by letting her sleep with us in our bed, but she is perfectly fine curled up with her blanket in her crate too. She has times where she is picky about what she wants to eat, but other times she will eat anything you put in front of her and seems to do best when she is with you while she eats. Once she is full her hard food tends to become a toy and she will throw pieces of it around and chase after it. She loves to play fetch and keep away, and she is always trying to sneak sticks and pine cones inside to chew on. She can turn pretty much anything into a toy, but really likes folded socks. To meet her is to love her!

For the most part. I have to keep a close eye on her and make sure she gets taken out every hour to hour and a half. She can hold it all night as long as she gets taken out as soon as we wake up in the morning and she does well holding it if she has to be in her crate when we go out.
  • Gets along with children: Yes
She loves attention from anyone who will give it to her, she doesn't discriminate based on size. Lol.
  • Gets along with other dogs: Yes
  • Gets along with cats: Unknown
She's only been near the neighbors cat; she was very curious but the kitty didn't want to play with her.
