My schedule is pretty flexible right now, so I have plenty of room in my day for pet care. Morning walk? Works. Midday visit? Also works. Someone who would simply appreciate a little company during the day? I’m happy to be that person. Having an open schedule also means I’m not trying to squeeze every visit into a tiny window and race off to the next thing. I like having enough time to actually hang out with the pet I’m there to see.

In my home, I keep things pretty relaxed and let pets settle in at their own pace. I follow their usual feeding, walk, potty, and sleeping routines as closely as I can, give them plenty of attention, and make sure they have a comfortable place to relax. In a client’s home, I try to keep things feeling as normal as possible for the pet. I stick to the routine and house rules they’re already used to, spend real time with them instead of rushing through the visit, and leave the home the way I found it. Either way, I pay attention to the practical stuff too—secure leashes, doors and gates, safe outdoor time, medications if needed, and whatever little quirks or habits I should know about ahead of time. Basically, I want your pet to feel like their day is still their day, just with me filling in while you’re away. 🐾

Mostly, I just like to know how life normally works for your pet—when they eat, bathroom habits, walks, medications or dietary needs, where they like to sleep, and any commands or house rules they already know. It’s also helpful to know what they’re like around new people and other animals, plus anything that could make our time together unexpectedly exciting—door-dashing, leash reactivity, resource guarding, escape-artist tendencies, or any other quirks I should know about ahead of time. And then give me the good stuff: favorite toys, favorite treats, the exact spot they insist on being scratched, and whatever weird little thing makes them ridiculously happy. The more I know what makes them them, the easier it is for us to get along. 🐾
A typical day
A typical day really depends on who I’m hanging out with. For the energetic ones, that might mean a good sniff-filled walk, fetch, tug, favorite toys, or some time outside investigating whatever apparently very important smell has their attention. Cats are welcome to set the agenda too—wand toys, window watching, playtime, or simply having a nearby human available when they decide I’ve earned their attention. And for the professional loungers, I’m fully qualified for belly rubs, couch time, cozy naps, and keeping them company while they accomplish absolutely nothing. I like to follow each pet’s personality and give them a good mix of activity, attention, and downtime. Mostly, I want them to have a genuinely nice day while their person is away. 🐾

I’ve always been the kind of person who really pays attention to animals as individuals. Some want to be your best friend immediately, some need a little time, and some are perfectly happy supervising from across the room until they’ve decided you’re acceptable. I’m good at matching their energy and letting them be themselves. That might mean a long walk and playtime, a quieter day with lots of company, or a little patience while they warm up.
