I took in a French bulldog a number of years ago when he was 4 years old after living in a very chaotic environment in his early years. I had spent time around him since he was a puppy and he grew to feel safe in my presence, but struggled mightily to connect with any other people. He developed aggressive tendencies and would attack people's feet, my guess is that someone abused him at some point as he had this fixation with feet. When I took him in it was just the two of us. I felt that I wouldn't be able to socialize him with other people and had strategized ways not to let his special needs keep me from enjoying my social. When I started dating Amy over four years ago, she was determined to break through to little Titus and find a way to his heart, past his trauma. It took him two years to fully trust her, but he eventually grew to love her and see her as his mother. She absolutely exceeded any of my wildest expectations in that regard and when he passed away earlier this year I couldn't help but reflect on just how truly incredible she was to and for him. She is an incredible dog mother and is able to attune to and provide all of the loving nourishment that an animal needs.
