I chose this sitter because his profile indicated there were no children, no other dogs, and that pets were allowed on furniture and beds. Before booking, I also explained that my dog Hazel is a high-energy German Shorthaired Pointer, and I was told that would not be a problem. When I arrived, I was surprised to find that a woman and a young girl answered the door. The young girl took Hazel’s leash but struggled to handle her, and Hazel was pulling her around the entryway. I also heard another dog barking and jumping in a crate, and was told it was their dog. This was unexpected based on the profile information I had read. During our conversation, I mentioned that Hazel does not do well being crated for long periods and dislikes being left alone. After leaving, I felt uneasy about the situation and turned around to check on her. When I returned a few minutes later, Hazel had already been placed in a crate, so I decided to take her home rather than continue the stay. This may be a good fit for some dogs, but the environment and care arrangement I encountered did not match my expectations based on the profile and our prior communication. For owners with high-energy dogs or dogs that are not comfortable spending significant time crated, I would recommend not booking.
