Pet care experience

ABOUT ME :) : I'm a certified vet assistant, animal-behavior enthusiast, who works from home. I can accommodate low-to-mid energy doggos. Since I wfh, I will need dogs I watch to be able to settle and take naps throughout the day between play times. If your dog would enjoy a taking their vacation in our dog friendly one-story (easy on the knees!), area-rugged house, then contact me for a meet and greet! I live close to the Emerald Isle bridge in a beautiful neighborhood with one roommate. I generally take one client at a time, but if your dog is comfortable with other dogs, they may get to stay with other dogs who are repeat clients of mine and I am familiar with. Before any stay, I always ask the permission of the other owners to make sure everyone is comfortable. :) The usual activity schedule is short walk & playtime in the morning, nap while I work beside them, time in the yard at lunch, nap while I work, and a playtime and a long walk in the evening, with chill evening TV time together. Our two dogs are very playful and enjoy running around with other dogs and playing with them, if they enjoy it, but will back off if the other dog is not into it. If you think this schedule will work well for your dog(s), please reach out! :) I have experience caring for my own animals since I was 7, and have been pet-sitting for various animals since I was 15. (In addition to dog and cat sitting, I also have experience with and offer care for many other species - chickens, guinea pigs, hermit crabs, turtles, you name it!) My dog had separation anxiety, so I understand the desire to make sure your pets will be in a patient and hands-on care situation. I am vet-assistant certified, and although I do not work in a vet office right now, I keep up with my continuing education. I am also interested in becoming a search-and-rescue canine handler, and so read a lot of material on animal behavior and training! I also volunteered, then worked at, an SPCA for several years and got to know a lot of different animals there. That experience has helped me understand much about animals and their diverse and amazing personalities. :) I use positive-reinforcement training with every dog in my care. FOR HOUSE SITTING CLIENTS: I require a stable internet connection for my work, and also can only sit for non-smoking households. ABOUT SPECIAL CONCERNS: I'm very comfortable giving medications, taking time to feed by hand if they're hesitant to eat, and socializing timid animals. I love hosting animals who may not enjoy the hectic pace of a daycare or being around large groups of dogs. I enjoy being able to provide the specialized attention that helps them feel safe. I'm familiar with encouraging dogs to take rests when they need - whether it's a hip that just goes wonky sometimes, a heart murmur, or recovering from surgery, let me know their boundaries, I'll be cautious that they get the exercise they need without going too hard on their bodies. :)

Consistently fantastic care. Our dog arrived with an injury, special food, & storm anxiety and Amber handled them all with skill and grace. She is excellent at reading a dog’s needs and then honoring those needs with personalized care. Our dog means the world to us and we always feel totally and completely comfortable leaving him in Amber’s care.

Amber is amazing! She continues to be the only one I trust to watch our aging pup. We’re so grateful for her!

We can’t say enough good things about Amber’s care. She understands canine behavior and goes out of her way to ensure our dog has the most comfortable time while in her home — whether it’s orchestrating positive dog play dates or going above and beyond to provide support during thunderstorms which scare our dog, she is outstanding. She asks detailed questions about his preferences and expectations so that she can help the transition and make him feel at ease. On our (human) end, we feel nothing but confidence and peace when we drop him off for his stay. 5 stars!
