Availability

I work from home (except for the occasional travel for work). I also have flexible hours, which means I can be flexible during the work days around dog walks/outside time for them. Whilst I'm happy to travel further for day sits, my preference for regular walk/drop ins is to be walkable from Greystones😊

Safety, trust & environment

My living situation is that I live with partner, who also wfh. He is good with dogs, but usually just keeps to himself for the most part! I live near to the top entrance of Bingham park so there's a nice smell safari close by! We have a garden, it isn't fenced but I'll regularly pop a lead on to go out and play regularly (I'm currently looking for a good long rope system for the garden to make this easier)!

Information Amber K. would like to know about your pet

What does your dog like? Favourite toys, or treats or places? This way we can make their play/stay the most fun it possibly can be! Does your dog have any fears or anxieties? Cars, bikes, other dogs, people they don't know? This way we can try to avoid them, or be alert and keep them reassured if we do come across them? How much does your dog like to walk? What's the minimum and maximum walk length a day that you would say is appropriate? Does your dog have any health conditions that need monitoring? If they're coming for a stay, what time are they used to being up and out in the morning, when are their usual meal times? Would you like them walking on or off lead? We will usually keep them on lead until we have developed a good relationship with them, even if you say they are good off the lead, but we will go by your guidance on this matter. How often, and how in depth would you like to be updated about your pet?

A typical day

Days can feature a variety of things, if I'm walking them I prefer to do so in trees/woods! Limb Broom and out to Forge Dam are probably my two regulars for a longer walk. If we're at home then we've got a garden for fetch etc!

Funding my silly sporting challenges with dog care

Pet care experience

A bit about me, and dog care: I used to swim for GBR, and still do endurance sport. Last year I swam the English Channel, soon I'm swimming a relay down the Thames (both for charity). It's actually quite expensive doing such adventures so dog-care income is a nice way to support this! By day, I work on water quality policy for the conservation charity Surfers Against Sewage - working from home full time is always better with canine company! I also run a mental health charity too, and if I'm not working I'm almost certainly in the Peak District walk/run/swim/cycling! I've taken care of dogs my entire life, both those who are part of my family, and other families. I have cared for relatives' dogs for a decade, and been caring for dogs that aren't part of my family for 5 years (e.g. Borrow my Doggy and Rover). I have a variety of experiences with dogs with different nerds, including one dog that I've cared for weekly for years! The dogs I care for, past and present, include big and small dogs, from police dogs to rescue dogs. I have also cared on and off for cats my life, but most notably for my neighbours for several years when they were away, and for houses with both dog+cats. I would prefer to develop a relationship with your pet and become one of your go-tos, rather than be an adhock walker, for your pet's sake too! I figure it's more fun for them and me when we get to build a relationship😊 You are welcome to meet me before committing to us for the first time - the most important thing to us is that you and your dog are happy! I adore animals and will take care of your pet as if they were part of my own family. I would have my own dog if I didn't want to spend long Saturdays riding my bike (which wouldn't be fair on a dog)! I am punctual, reliable, and a good communication from me when you are away. I'll make sure to keep you updated with anything I notice that might be off with your pet's health, ie. a limp I haven't noticed before, or if they seem a little off their food... I'll also be sure to update you with cute pictures, because who doesn't love to recieve pet pictures?!

It was so helpful for Amber to visit Rosie at home during the very hot weather. It was too hot for a walk but having Amber to check on Rosie that she was keeping in the shade, got ample water and a friendly face for company was really important to an elderly dog at home for a time in the sweltering heat.

Amber was amazing with Bruno! Loads of photo updates throughout the day and made sure he stayed cool in the heatwave! Couldn’t have asked for better care, Bruno had an amazing time

Amber was great with our 5 month old energetic pup! We were a bit nervous about leaving him for the first time, but we shouldn’t have worried as he seemed to have a great time and came back to us tired and happy 😊

Thank you Amber for looking after Flynn, for keeping me updated and being relaxed when things went a bit wrong.
