Pet care experience

2 Acres of Tails & Trails

For nearly 20 years, caring for animals has been one of my greatest joys. I have 19 years of pet care experience, including 15 years as a devoted cat owner, and currently care for a flock of chickens and an angora rabbit on our peaceful two-acre woodland property. I offer boarding and doggy daycare in a calm, home-based environment where dogs can enjoy plenty of supervised outdoor time, new scents to explore, and lots of individual attention. Our chickens are securely fenced in their own area, and our rabbit is safely housed in the garage, allowing visiting pets to relax comfortably in their own space. I understand that every pet is unique. Whether your dog loves adventure and play or prefers a quiet place to nap, I’ll work to make them feel safe, comfortable, and loved while you’re away. For cat owners, I also offer home visits so your feline friends can stay happy and stress-free in the comfort of their own home. When your pet stays with me, they’re treated like family—not just a booking. You’ll receive attentive care, regular updates, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing your pet is in experienced, caring hands.

Schedule

Pet care is naturally woven into our daily life. As a homeschooling family, I have the flexibility to provide attentive care, supervision, potty breaks, playtime, and companionship throughout the day rather than leaving pets alone for long stretches. We live on a peaceful two-acre woodland property and maintain a home where animals are loved, respected, and considered part of the family. Caring for animals is already part of our routine, from tending our flock of chickens to caring for our angora rabbit. My wife and I are proud to provide a welcoming, inclusive environment for all families, including LGBTQ+ families, and we strive to create a safe, respectful space for everyone. Our 8½-year-old daughter is a budding farmer and fellow animal lover who has grown up helping care for animals with kindness and respect. Together, we’ve created a home environment where pets receive plenty of attention, affection, and engagement. Because I work from home and homeschool, I’m able to adapt to each pet’s needs and schedule, helping them feel comfortable, secure, and right at home during their stay.

Safety, trust & environment

Your pet’s safety, comfort, and well-being are always my top priorities. We have a spacious, open home with no indoor pets, allowing visiting dogs to settle in comfortably and enjoy plenty of personal attention. Our property spans two peaceful wooded acres, providing a calm environment away from busy roads and heavy traffic. Our resident animals—a flock of chickens and an angora rabbit—are securely housed in separate fenced or enclosed areas and do not interact with visiting pets. We also maintain a fenced garden area, helping ensure clear boundaries throughout the property. While our yard is not fully fenced, all outdoor time is carefully supervised. Dogs will be leashed during walks and outdoor adventures, and I closely monitor all activity to ensure their safety. Guests can enjoy plenty of fresh air, woodland strolls, sniffing opportunities, exercise, and enrichment while remaining under attentive supervision. For in-home cat visits, I follow each family’s instructions carefully, maintain your cat’s routine, and ensure your home is left secure after every visit. Whether caring for pets in my home or yours, I believe safety starts with attentive supervision, clear communication, and treating every animal as if they were my own.

A typical day

Every pet is different, so I tailor activities to their age, energy level, personality, and owner’s preferences. For active dogs, our two-acre woodland property offers plenty of opportunities for supervised exploration, sniffing adventures, and nature-filled walks. Many dogs especially enjoy accompanying me during daily farm chores, where they can experience new sights, sounds, and smells in a safe and engaging environment. We’re also just minutes from the beautiful Eno River, and with owner permission, some dogs may enjoy leashed walks or hikes along the trails for extra exercise and enrichment. For dogs who prefer a slower pace, I’m equally happy to provide gentle strolls, one-on-one playtime, enrichment activities, cuddle sessions, and plenty of relaxing downtime in our home. My goal is to make every stay feel like a fun vacation filled with adventure, attention, and affection while keeping your pet safe, comfortable, and happy.

Before a booking, it’s very important for me to learn about your pet’s personality, behavior, and comfort level so I can ensure they’re a good fit for my home and provide the best possible care. Please let me know if your dog is a runner or escape artist, has a history of chasing wildlife or other animals, and how they interact with children, including whether they are comfortable around my calm, respectful 8-year-old. I also need to know how your dog does around other dogs. If they enjoy canine company, I can plan accordingly, but if they do best as the only dog present or need space from other dogs, please let me know in advance so I can schedule bookings appropriately and maintain a safe, low-stress environment for everyone. The more information you can share about your pet’s habits, triggers, preferences, and socialization needs, the better I can tailor their stay and make sure they are safe, comfortable, and happy.
