Safety, trust & environment

I prefer to care for dogs in their own home and neighbourhood where they feel most comfortable but can drive them to longer walks (depending on size of dog!). I can care for young puppies though I’m also used to older dogs who need company and short frequent walks/toilet breaks. Im experienced with most medications and special care vet though not injections. I’ll just try to keep your dog safe and happy around your home and out for exercise - and will send you updates/photos as often as you like.

Information Amanda W. would like to know about your pet

For any kind of dog cafe/walks/ holiday house sits I will want to meet you and walk your dog before accepting the booking. A one day tester in advance is a good idea for you, your pet and me if I’m new to you and it’s a house sit. Let me know any special information or preferences please, also medication, vets and for house sits your daily routine - see checklist below. I’m used to spaniels and Labradors and have also looked after older border collies, greyhounds and retrievers, but am happy with most types of medium to small size dogs - but if you think your breed has special needs pls let me know. I’d rather look after one/two dogs at a time in their own home. I don’t want to sit for dogs with aggression or behavioural issues. Most loved family pets are fine! Please provide me with this information: - Emergency numbers while you’re away - Local neighbour/friend who may help in emergency - walk and food routine including some favourite walks - any medical needs and when I should call the vet - how you settle your pet before you go out and at night - how you answer the door to deliveries (how to keep your pet safe/not escaping) - do you have security cameras/alarms? - other than pet care, is there anything else you’d like me to do for your house/garden while you’re away?

A typical day

Dear dog - I’ll spend some time playing and getting to know you first. You can take your time and I’ll be calm and gentle to put you at your ease. Show me your home and toys and then let’s go out and walk, explore your area. I love walking in woods, fields and on beaches if they’re nearby and if you’re up for ball games that would be fun too. We can go further in the car if you like that or stay nearby, whatever you prefer. Then let’s get home, get clean and dry and maybe have some food? Then time together curled up would be fun. And repeat!

Pet care experience

I’ve lived in many houses and can deal with most situations calmly and sensibly. I have owned springer spaniels and have experience sitting for King Charles spaniels, working Cocker spaniels, a variety of terriers, mini Schnauzers, Labradors and cockapoos. I’ve looked after old dogs, blind and deaf as well as younger energetic ones - but I do like them to have some training so I’m not being towed around and then we can have fun together while I keep your pet safe and happy. I like to meet you and your dog(s) before sitting for you.

Another wonderful visit from Amanda. The dogs could not have been happier and thoroughly enjoyed their walk too. Thank you so much, Amanda!

Amanda spent this evening ing with our two Jack Russells and they could not have been happier or more relaxed. When we returned home, they greeted us and went off to play, a sure sign that they were very happy and relaxed with her company.

Amanda came and looked after our rescue pup while we were off getting married (!) She really put our minds at rest that Frida was nice and safe and happy while we were otherwise occupied. She's obviously got lots of experience with dogs, and we had a lovely meet and greet a couple of weeks before the sit. We're so happy we found a way to leave Frida at home for the duration, and Amanda was brilliant all through the process, highly recommend!
