Therapist/pet caretaker

PLEASE NOTE: I only take one household at a time 💗🐶 There will be no other dogs boarding if you book with me. Individualized care, perfect for reactive and neurotic dogs! It is also necessary that your dog(s) can be left alone for 6 or 7 hours either crated or roaming free as I do have a full-time job during the week. ABOUT ME: I walked dogs professionally in Chicago for several years and worked at a dog daycare when I returned home to attend graduate school where I was trained in behavior modification. I have been sitting on Rover for almost four years and I have a full-time job as a professional therapist. I live in a three-bedroom house with a backyard. I'm working on getting a proper fence, but in the meantime, I have 40" tall playpen panels installed in my backyard. I will sometimes use tie-outs if I don't think the panels will be sufficient. I never let dogs in my backyard unsupervised. I live two blocks from Theo Wirth Parkway, so lots of trails are nearby. I do not have any other pets or children. I require a complimentary, 15-min meet and greet in my home to confirm your booking request.

I’ve never had to leave my dog with anyone but family before but I was very comfortable with Amanda and she did a great job! We did a meet and greet before my dog’s stay, drop off and pickup were easy, lots of update pictures were appreciated communication/responsiveness was great and she did a great job with my nervous/reactive dog. Highly recommend Amanda!

Amanda was great and provided ease when away from our pups. She was quick to communicate and shared photos of the dogs during our trip. Definitely felt good about them being in her care and would book with her again. Thanks!

This was Poppy’s second time staying with Amanda and she had an amazing time. Amanda took Poppy on lots of adventures and shared photos throughout the weekend — it was fun to follow along while we were traveling. Poppy had a blast and will definitely be staying with Amanda again in the future :)

Amanda took very good care of George and sent me lots of photos so I knew he was doing well! I have a lot of anxiety leaving him with other people so knowing he was good was amazing.

Schedule

I live in North Minneapolis near Theo Wirth Parkway. I work hybrid, both from home and at an office about a 15 min bike ride/drive to downtown minneapolis. Unless I have in-person clients, I work from home but its possible some days I will be out of the house for up to 6 hours. I guarantee up to one 30-minute walk or 2x15-minute walks a day when boarding your dog. I ask that you be honest with me about their needs so that they can get the attention they deserve! If my schedule and weather permit, they may get additional exercise.

Safety, trust & environment

My home is dog proofed and I have two crates- one medium and one extra large- if your dog needs to be crated. I do request honesty about a history of destruction or eating plants. I send a Google link where I will post pictures during their stay. You are welcome to reach out any time to see how they're doing and I will promptly respond. If you would like me to send daily updates, I'm happy to do so :) Just be sure to please request this when you drop them off. Otherwise, no news is good news and the photo link will serve as updates!

A typical day

I have several toys, including a rope, several balls, a puzzle, lick mats, and kongs. I live near lots of hiking trails and, if I'm watching your dog over a weekend during the summer, it's quite possible that, with your permission, we will make a trip to my cabin, which is close by- near Taylor's Falls. My parents live nearby, and I will sometimes take the dogs to their house to run around since they have a big fenced-in backyard.

It's good to know what your pets temperament is, what they eat and when; if they're potty trained or need to be crated, if they have allergies, how they get along with other animals, and what they're like on walks. I like to know if there is a history of destruction or potty accidents. I ask that when we do a meet and greet, you allow your dog off leash in my home with minimal recall to see how they behave in a new environment. Incidents during a meet and greet such as marking furniture will not necessarily prevent me from accepting your pet, but I might ask you to book a trial day to see if the problem persists. It might also be wise to book a trial day with me if you plan to be gone for 5 or more days and/or you do not have a local emergency contact. This is to ensure that your pet and me are a good match so you can have a worry free trip. Please update your pet's profile with any important information or anything that is covered in the meet and greet. I meet lots of pet parents and it's best to have details in writing to refer to to optimize your pet's stay. If your pet has any medications coming with them, please add this to your profile along with any side effects or other information that would be important for me to know (are they chewables that could be attractive to your dog, do they need to be put in pb or pill pocket, how many pills are in each bottle). Please put all medications together in a seperate bag that can be taken out of their packed bag so I can store it safely away from treats. I have a strict no bully-stick, bone, or dental chew policy! Even if your pet is used to them, they can cause upset tummies or obstructions that I'd rather not deal with on my watch. I can keep them busy with a frozen lick mat or dog puzzles.
