Working Breed Sitter in Cap Hill

I've cared for dogs my entire life, starting with the family Labradors. As a teen, I adopted a German Shepard and learned formally how to train working breeds. Most recently, I had two retrievers (a chessie and a lab) who passed after 15 happy years traveling around exploring national parks and ultimately retiring on a small island in the San Juans. I miss them/having dog companionship every day, but having recently moved to Seattle I am not in a position to adopt during this chapter of my life. So that brings me to Rover! Outside my personal experience, I've often been hired by friends and family to help with pet sitting. I'm known for being highly capable of handling "trouble" dogs or several at once. Throughout my 20s, I had several jobs in kennels and veterinary offices and have worked with all kinds of dogs at all ages. Maybe I can become a resource for yours?

Safety, trust & environment

How I keep your dog safe: Understanding how to secure them is first. Proper collars, harnessing, and safe leashing. Ensuring tags are secure and visible. Ensuring there are lights on dog if walking at night. Next is space security. From the kennel if the dog has one, to making sure other animals or rooms that are off limits are properly secure. Then, Ensuring safe building entry and exit (being fully leashed for exterior doors, etc.) During walks, it's important to stay tuned into both my and other dogs body language. I typically maintain distance as a baseline. Ensuring dogs are not eating things off the ground is also important. Most of these goals are achieved by walking in tune with the dog and making sure the dogs attention is on me when needed. I don't typically allow play or interaction with dogs that aren't mine unless I'm doing puppy socialization and the other dogs are relatively known variables. I want to know your dogs quirks. That is the best way for me to keep them safe; being ready for what could go wrong. In your home will vary, and I will make sure we are on the same page in writing and verbally about proper safety protocols.

Amanda was absolutely amazing! She took such wonderful care of our dogs, Dolce and Simba, while we were away, and we couldn’t have asked for a better sitter. From the moment we left, we had complete peace of mind knowing they were in such loving, capable hands. Amanda treated them like they were her own, making sure they were happy, comfortable, and well cared for. She kept us updated, and it was clear from every photo and message just how much love and attention they were getting. Coming home to two happy, relaxed pups says everything about the care they received. If you’re looking for someone who is dependable, compassionate, and truly loves animals, Amanda is the one. We are beyond grateful for everything she did for Dolce and Simba and would trust her again in a heartbeat. Thank you, Amanda!

Amanda had watched our 70lb baby boy "Tommy" on many occasion. She is absolutely lovely with animals, and really makes a pet parent feel comforted when out of town. Can't say enough positive things about my experience having Amanda care for Tommy.

I appreciate knowing all the good and the challenges that come with any dogs personality. What do they enjoy? What sets them off? What makes them nervous? This information helps us be successful when we're out and about.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
