Pet care experience

One-to-one care for nervous pooches

I only ever have one dog (or more from the same family) stay at a time so your dog has my undivided attention. Both me and my partner are at home all day so no leaving your pet alone for hours. After losing my gorgeous Beagle boy (of old age) I wanted to offer my support to other families who don't want to put their dogs in kennels and want someone who will look after them one-to-one with no other dogs. My Beagle came from The Dogs Trust when he was 18 months old. He had not been socialised and, as I discovered, had never been walked outside his little garden. It was a huge learning experience for the both of us but a great one and I now know the signs of a nervous/anxious dog and how to overcome that and work with it. I live on a farm (no livestock) with loads of land to play in and far away from busy roads. I am experienced with anxious/nervous and elderly dogs who don't want to mix with others. I don't have any pets or children at home so a nice relaxed environment and I'm at home full time so your dog can relax, play, hang out with me in my pottery studio or go for lovely walks around iur fields. I only ever care for one dog at a time (or more from the same family) so your dog will receive one-to-one care and won't be left with other dogs. When your dog comes to stay with me it won't be left alone or shut away. I make sure any dog that stays with me is properly looked after by going for walks, either around our own fields or out and about, and playing games and most importantly I care for each dog as if they were my own.

I can highly recommend Alison and so would Barney. Alison was so accommodating & helpful and dealt with a short notice change to my plans so supportively, which really helped my stress levels at the time. Barney obviously had a whale of a time with Alison & I'm sure part of him didn't want to leave her beautiful house & surrounding garden / field & come back with me. Alison was so well set up for having dog visitors, her communication was good and she had an obvious love & care for dogs. The location was great for my visit, only a short, (Cornish single track road) , drop ve, really easy to find. If I'm back at the festival next year I'll definitely be asking Alison to have Barney again. Thank you xxx

I'm really glad I found Alison. She was really lovely with my dog Hettie, who can be very nervous in certain situations. I think Hettie really enjoyed the quiet countryside set up and it was a lovely chilled retreat for her.

Having had a couple of bad experiences with boarding our anxious border collie in traditional kennels, we felt he would be better suited to personal one to one care and Alison's farm with lots of land, prior experience and great reviews seemed like an obvious choice and we are extremely glad that we did! He settled straight away and took to not just Alison, but her family too! He was clearly very happy there and is already looking forward to his next 'holiday' in September. Thank you Alison x

This was our first time with leaving our beloved mae for a week. I could not be happier with the care and love she received from Alison and her family. Mae clearly had a lovely time. I was very appreciative ot the updates and photos. I can thoroughly recommend Alison

I'm at home full time so will give your dog plenty of walks and toilet breaks throughout the day or they can just relax while I potter about in my art studio sometimes which is in a barn on my farm. Evenings are quiet, relaxing by the fire or in the garden or going for walk.

Safety, trust & environment

Our farm (non-working) is in a very quiet area away from people and traffic. We are srrounded by fields which our guests can explore without the need to go to public places. However, I can also take them to all the best places for great dog walks if they are staying with me for a longer time and you are happy for them to go out. They will always be kept on a lead/long leash when out for their own safety, unless I know they have 100% recall. I will ensure that if they are nervous/anxious/elderly dogs that I only go to quiet places I know or preferably just stay here on the farm. We don't have any roads near us and we are at the end of a no-through lane so there is no traffic going past. We don't have any other pets or young children.

A typical day

Both myself and my partner are at home all day so your dog(s) aren't left alone for long periods. We (me and your pet) will have a couple of good walks during the day morning and afternoon. We have six acres of land here so there's plenty to do if your dog doesn't like going to places where there are other dogs so we can have a good explore of the fields on my farm checking out all the smells. If your dog is staying longer and is happy to go out, we can go to one of the many beaches or, if you don't fancy beaches, we can go and wander around the woods or we can explore all the National Trust gardens we have around here. If you just want to chill out you can hang out with me in my art studio or chill in the house with me. As I'm home all day we can play games whenever you want too. In the evenings we can go out walking or you can sit by the fire - whatever you fancy on your holiday xx

I'll ask you all about your dog and their routine - what they like/what they don't like, whether they like to be out and about exploring or whether they'd much rather be snuggled up on the sofa sleeping. I specialise in elderly dogs and dogs that are nervous or anxious, I know that they have very particular needs so if you don't want your dog taken out where there are other dogs then we've got plenty of space to explore here.
