Pet care experience

Shelter & Vet-Experienced Sitter

I’m an animal care professional with over five years of hands-on experience in shelter work, neonatal fostering, wildlife handling, and veterinary clinic support, and I’m currently a student looking to go into the vet med field. I’ve cared for everything from bottle-fed kittens and young puppies to senior pets, livestock, reptiles, and native wildlife! My background includes medication administration (oral, topical, and subcutaneous), post-surgical recovery support, behavioral observation, enrichment planning, and multi-species handling. I can confidently say that I am highly attentive to subtle changes in appetite, energy, and behavior, and that I prioritize safety, structure, and low-stress care, as the health and well-being of the pets I attend to is what’s most important. I have extensive experience with: • Neonatal kittens and puppies • Fearful, anxious, or under-socialized animals • Medication routines and special-needs pets • Multi-pet households • High-energy or working breeds Inviting someone to care for and look after your furry friend is no small feat, and I take great pride in being given the privilege to. I provide consistent updates, clear communication, and dependable care so you can feel confident while you’re away. Your pet’s safety, comfort, and routine are my top priorities :)

Safety, trust & environment

Safety and low-stress handling are always my top priorities! I carefully follow all care instructions provided, including feeding guidelines, medication schedules, and behavioral notes. I always take time to observe each pet’s comfort level and adjust my approach accordingly, especially with shy or anxious animals. In clients’ homes, I respect boundaries and maintain a clean, secure environment, double checking doors, gates, and enclosures, and ensuring pets are safely contained before entering or leaving. I’m sure to avoid introducing unfamiliar stimuli and maintain a calm presence to help pets feel secure. If I notice any changes in appetite, behavior, or energy levels, I will always communicate promptly so owners can stay informed.

Alexis was literally so wonderful. We had a trip planned for months, and one of our cats was diagnosed with pneumonia right before we were set to leave. Alexis was comfortable administering medication, and sent such good updates about how everyone was doing. I was actually able to relax and focus on the tasks I needed to do on the trip. Will one hundred percent be recommending her to others!

I really appreciate Alexis‘s patience and grace, while dealing with my energetic and rambunctious puppy. I was very anxious about leaving her as this was my first time away from her since I got her in November. Alexis was gracious and communicated with me often. I’d definitely use her again if she will have us. 😂

I used to work with Alexis at an animal boarding facility, and I’m happy to give her this reference. Throughout our time working together, she was a great coworker. Always on time, always pulling her weight, always wonderful with the animals, and always going above and beyond. If you needed something done she’d get it done, even if she was on a time crunch. She was good at handling lots all at once too, whether that be cleaning out five cat kennels at the same time while making sure to give them all attention and check on their health and needs, or whether that be in a room with fifteen dogs by herself doing the supervising and play and enrichment.

Alexis has watched over my animals many times (one golden doodle, one husky, and a cat), and it really seems like caring for them isn’t just something she enjoys but something that gives her life. She always goes out of her way to meet them where they’re at and cater to their needs. My doodle gets separation anxiety quite a lot, but she always handles her incredibly well. Inviting someone into your pet’s life requires trust, and I believe that Alexis is a great candidate. She always communicates clearly and treats both the home and the animals in it with love and respect.

Schedule

Pet care is something I intentionally structure into my daily and weekly schedule! I make sure to maintain a consistent routine and only accept bookings I can reliably commit to, ensuring each pet receives focused, unhurried attention. I always prioritize punctuality, clear communication, and keeping pets on their normal feeding, medication, and enrichment schedules to reduce stress while their owners are away. Because I have a background in structured animal care environments, I’m comfortable balancing multiple routines while staying attentive to each pet’s individual needs!

To provide the best care possible, I appreciate knowing your pet’s daily routine, feeding schedule, favorite activities, and any behavioral quirks or sensitivities! It’s also helpful to know how they respond to new people, whether they have any anxiety triggers, and any medical needs or medications that they’re taking. I also like to confirm emergency contacts, preferred veterinarians, and any house-specific instructions and rules so I can ensure everything runs smoothly while you’re away. The more I know about your pet’s personality and routine, the more comfortable and secure they’ll feel during my visits :)
