Pet care experience

Care for both ends of the leash!

Hi! I’m Alex (she/they)! I’ve led pack walks, supervised play groups in dog parks, dog sat in clients’ homes, and worked at a high volume dog daycare! I am comfortable with any size dog, of any age. I have administered medication and provided first aid (Walks N Wags first aid certified 2020). I am Fear Free Daycare and Boarding certified (2025), and I’m enrolled in a professional dog training school. I have experience handling and managing dogs that have behavioural problems, including dog-dog aggression, dog-human aggression, fear, separation anxiety, general anxiety, obsessive compulsive behaviours, etc. I'm happy to send photos and updates, as well as a behavioural report if requested! I will always be honest and transparent about your dog!

Alex really took the time to get Tito’s trust and was so sweet with him. Alex respected Tito’s boundaries and timeline. Amazing service and respected all the expectations (paw wipes, treats, etc.). Easy 10/10 ! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Alex is absolutely wonderful with dogs - highly perceptive, caring, and patient - and is particularly sensitive to any kind of challenge, behavioural or otherwise. My dog has…mmm, a lot going on and finds it difficult to trust most people. Alex easily won Eli’s confidence, which is honestly amazing. Alex can also offer super helpful, well-informed, and non-judgemental guidance. Highly recommend.

Alexandra met my expectations and beyond. She listened to my needs and that of my pooch. She assessed my dog's needs and took over from there. Munchie was comfortable with her and returned a very happy camper! Alexandra is a very amiable person with a sweet smile. I would hire her again with no hesitation.

I’ve worked with Alex closely for the last year. Her attentiveness to dogs is unmatched, truly. I’ve got two pups, ranging in age and energy levels that absolutely ADORE her. She takes such great care in meeting the demands of my old hounddog and my young energetic boxer mix. In her care, I know they will get the best care and leave their time with her happy, tired and well stimulated. With her vast knowledge of animal behavior and handling, a calming demeanor and a friendly focus on what your dog needs. There is no one I trust with my pups more than her!! Four paws WAY up for Ms Alex.

Alex is an excellent trainer and caregiver for our pets. If you can count on anyone to keep up with the current best practices in evidence-informed training and practices, it's Alex. I can't think of anyone more committed to caring for dogs in ways that reflect animal behaviour; they're also great at accompanying you as the human on how to best support your pet.

Schedule

All I do is care for dogs! Caring and training them is my passion! I am available all day, everyday and I’m used to being up before dawn and way after dark for potty breaks, feeding, training, decompression walks, etc.

Where your pet will stay

Home characteristics

Lives in an apartment
Has an unfenced yard
Non-smoking household
Has 1 dog
No children present
Dogs allowed on bed
Dogs allowed on furniture
Potty breaks every 2-4 hours

Safety, trust & environment

A dog in my care will have their own room with a window for their crate, bed, toys, and any other belongings that will help them settle and feel safe in my home. I have a few different lengths of leashes for different kinds of walks: potty breaks, loose leash walking, decompression walks, training, etc I have a car with a backseat ‘hammock’ and seat belts to attach to their harness for safety during car rides, either to a park, to and from your home, etc. I have a stocked pet first aid kit and have experience administering first aid.

A typical day

I'm a huge advocate for decompression walks - a walk where the dog leads the way and sniffs to their heart's content, and is usually done on a harness and long lead so they feel only minimal leash pressure! It is mentally and physically stimulating, sniffing helps calm their nervous system, and it gives dogs a sense of agency in an otherwise heavily managed life. I have a repertoire of pattern games and sniffing games that can be done inside if its raining, too hot/cold or for dogs that can't walk for long periods of time (ex seniors, puppies, dogs recovering from medical procedures/illness, etc). Dogs need lots of time to rest, and I am happy to guide them to this - puppies and young dogs sometimes need to be taught and encouraged to rest.

Let me know if your dog has any behavioural challenges or a traumatic history - I love caring for these dogs so please don't be shy! It helps me tailor the care they get so that they are safe and will feel comfortable and fulfilled in my care!
