Pet care experience

Dogs treated like family

I have been a fan of dogs my whole life, have owned dogs in the past, and currently share responsibilities of caring for a male boxer cross with a friend. For the last 10 years I have been a reliable port of call for family, close friends, friends of friends and neighbours when a short-term solution is needed. Since hearing about Rover.com recently, I decided to reinstate this account and start offering these services to a wider audience.

Al was incredible, couldn’t have asked for a better sitter. He was super friendly and knowledgeable upon meeting him but more importantly was great with my dogs. Also very clean and tidy when feeding/washing up bowls etc. Highly recommend!

Al is great with dogs! He has a real affinity with them and is very knowledgeable about their care needs and behavioural habits. Highly recommend!

Would wholeheartedly recommend Al as a pet sitter. He is incredibly good with dogs, including my quite large and boisterous golden retriever. I'd absolutely trust him to give him plenty of attention and affection but still keep him under control and safe. I've seen the same with other dogs he's looked after for friends - regardless of their size or temperament, he's a very calming presence and takes great care to look after them.

Alex is a great guy and now let's call him Al. If your pet enjoys getting walked, that's no problem because Al is a very active guy, often going hiking, which means plenty of exercise. If your pets are staying overnight, Al lives close to large open fields and the river, which provides lots of good walking destinations. Equally he has a fully secure backyard, meaning that days spent there can mainly be spent sitting in the sun (when we have it) and sniffing plants. We have used Al quite a lot prior to him joining Rover and would highly recommend

Alex has looked after our 5 year old sassy chihuahua and 1 year old Norwich terrier a few times now and has been so fantastic with them. He's reliable, really communicative and sends us pup updates which we love. I was a bit worried initially that our chihuahua would be too much of a handful as she can be a bit funny with strangers, but she took to Alex immediately. It's so reassuring being able to have someone like Alex looking after our dogs. Would highly recommend and will continue to use his services.

Alex is so great with my two Bedlington Terriers, Dotty & Bessie. He looks after them for me when I’m not able to, if i am going away or poorly. I am pretty sure my dogs prefer being at his house to mine as they never want to leave. His dogs walks with them are always long and usually always involve playing in the river - he mixes up his walks so two are never the same & it’s this variety my dogs love (they don’t often get that at home as I usually stick to the same trails). He doesn’t just walk them, he cuddles them, fusses over them & genuinely cares about them in a way that makes them know they are more than cared for without my presence and that makes them relaxed around him. And it’s not just dogs - Alex has always had a thirst to learn about all animals, and if he’s not around animals he is usually talking about them!

Schedule

I work full-time, but only a 5 minute walk from home and will never leave a dog unattended for longer than 4 hours as a rule. My work hours at the office are 8:30-17:00 Mon-Thurs with an hour long break at midday, and 8:30-12:30 on Fridays. I usually use my weekends for hiking so can tailor walks to suit individual dogs and/or take specific exercise requests from owners.

Safety, trust & environment

I have a high-fenced, secure garden with adequate space and shade and great retired neighbours either side of my terrace. On pleasant days when I am required to be in-office, I will often leave Fred (my boxer cross) outside with a big bowl of water so he can relax in the sun (or shade) at his leisure. With regards to overnight stays, it is a preference that dogs stay downstairs in either my kitchen or living room, but I can be flexible if certain dogs display any form of separation anxiety. Any dogs staying in my home must have been treated for fleas as standard so as not to jeopardise future pets from picking up hitch-hikers on their staycation.
