Pet care experience

Professional, Fear-Free Pet Care

I work professionally in animal welfare and currently serve as an Adoption Manager at a humane society, where I handle dogs and cats with a wide range of personalities, backgrounds, and behavior needs. Before moving into management, I worked directly in animal care and adoptions, and I also have previous professional experience in dog walking, pet sitting, and kennel care. What sets me apart is my behavior-focused approach. I use reward-based, low-stress handling and pay close attention to body language, comfort, and individual needs rather than treating every animal the same. I’m comfortable working with puppies, energetic dogs, shy or cautious pets, and animals who need a little extra patience or structure. With puppies, I’m happy to reinforce the routines and cues you’re already working on, including potty habits, leash manners, calm behavior, and basic skills. I can also provide enrichment, structured play, feeding, and routine care for both dogs and cats. My goal is to give you more than basic supervision. I want your pet to feel safe, understood, and genuinely well cared for while you’re away.

Safety, trust & environment

When caring for pets in a client’s home, I try to keep their environment and routine as familiar as possible. I follow the owner’s instructions closely, double-check doors, gates, harnesses, and leashes before outings, and never take unnecessary risks with a pet’s safety. I use reward-based, low-stress handling and pay close attention to body language. I won’t force interactions or use aversive equipment or punishment. If a pet seems uncomfortable, overstimulated, or unsure, I adjust the activity and give them the space or support they need. On walks, I keep dogs securely leashed and choose routes appropriate for the individual dog rather than assuming every dog wants to greet people or other animals. In the home, I respect established boundaries, feeding routines, crate or confinement plans, and any management systems the owner already has in place. I also provide clear updates so you know how your pet is doing while you’re away. My priority is that both you and your pet feel comfortable with the care being provided.

Alex did a phenomenal job with my 2 cats. He uploaded pics and left detailed updates on the app everyday. He also cleaned up vomit and vacuumed! 5 stars. Will use Alex again.

Alexander is a caring and patient animal lover of all kinds! I highly recommend him. He’s taken great care of two of my small dogs that needed medication and a golden retriever. He has a special gift with dogs! Lora

Alex cared for my cat and dog on 4 occasions and he did a fabulous job each time. He sent text updates and videos of our animals, which made me and my husband feel confident that they were in good hands. My dog is older and has mobility issues. Alex took special care and consideration with our senior pup, he even took time to meet with my dog prior to caring for him. Great guy to trust with your fur babies.

Schedule

I work full-time in animal welfare, so pet care is already a major part of my daily routine. I keep my Rover availability intentionally limited so I can give each pet my full attention rather than overbooking myself. I’m generally available throughout the day on Mondays for walks, drop-in visits, puppy care, and cat care. I’m also available on weekend evenings, typically after 6 PM, for walks, feeding, medication, playtime, and evening drop-ins. Because my schedule is consistent, I’m especially happy to work with recurring Monday clients or families who need reliable weekend-evening care.

Before caring for a pet, I like to know their normal routine, feeding schedule, medications, favorite activities, and anything that helps them feel comfortable. For dogs, it’s especially helpful to know about leash behavior, reactivity, fears, resource guarding, separation concerns, escape tendencies, and how they typically respond to unfamiliar people or animals. I also appreciate knowing what cues and training methods you use so I can stay consistent with what your pet already understands. For cats, please let me know about hiding spots, handling preferences, litter box habits, play preferences, and any history of stress around visitors. There’s no need for your pet to be “perfect.” I just want an accurate picture of their needs so I can keep them safe, comfortable, and set up for a good experience.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
