I’ve grown up surrounded by animals from the very start, especially dogs and cats. My dad and stepmum had a busy and loving home with eight dogs—mostly rescues—and five cats, all of different breeds including Staffys, a Lurcher, Bulldog, Jack Russell, Sheepdog, Shar Pei, and a Border Terrier. It was a full house, but it taught me so much about animal care, behaviour, and the unique personalities each pet brings. Although my mum didn’t allow dogs at her house, I begged for years—until one day I was handed a puppy training book after school, and I knew something was up. Sure enough, I got home to meet my very first dog, who’s still going strong at nearly 16 years old. I’ve always had a deep love for animals—more than for people, if I’m honest—and I seem to click with every dog I meet.
