Pet care experience

Adventurer • Athlete • Dog Lover

Hey, Rover friends! My name is Alex (he/they) and I absolutely love dogs. Growing up with an 85-pound yellow lab, I fell in love with these gentle giants as a kid, and volunteered at the local animal shelter during high school. I have experience with various types of training, including crate training, teaching loose-leash walking, and doing socialization work in public places. Over the past four years, I have sat for dozens of clients, both through Rover and for family and friends. I also serve as a regular dog walker for several others. I have experience with a wide variety of dog breeds and ages. From rescue mutts to the stigmatized Bully breeds, family dogs such as the Doodles, Pugs, Bulldogs, and Labrador Retriever, and herding dogs including the Corgi, Cattle Dog, Australian Shepherd, and Shetland Sheepdog, I believe that each dog has a unique personality and can thrive given the right circumstances! In the next couple of years, I hope to adopt a rescue dog myself, but right now, Rover gives me the chance to be around lots of different animals despite my busy lifestyle.

House Sitting • Jan 03, 2026

Alex was an incredible sitter! He stayed with our dogs for a few days while we were out of town. He took great care of them, going above and beyond by bringing additional feeding tools and toys he thought would work well for them (thank you for introducing Oslo to a slow feeder!). He was very attentive to their needs, sent photos often, and provided frequent updates via text. Thank you so much Alex! We can't recommend him highly enough!

Schedule

I am a PhD candidate, and I work from home a good portion of the week. When I teach, I am typically gone for 4 hours at the most, so I am able to check in on dogs frequently. I am also a very active person and enjoy strolls through the park, long hikes, or easy tempo runs on local cross-country trails.

Safety, trust & environment

For doggy daycare and boarding, I have a comfy crate that is adjustable to your pup's size, and for their safety, I typically crate them if I leave the house until we have built a relationship. I have a small fenced-in backyard which is perfect for potty breaks, fetch, and short training sessions. I live close to Washington Park, and frequently take pups on the loop around the lake. I also enjoy taking day trips to the Adirondacks and Catskills for hiking :)

A typical day

I am a very active person myself, and I love taking dogs on long walks or runs! When I host dogs, we typically wake up between 6-7, and depending on the activity level, go for a stroll or up to a 45 min walk before breakfast. For meals, I use a slow feeding bowl and also have puzzle toys and an assortment of Kongs that I like to freeze for entertainment. With puppies under 6 months, I like to do short training sessions to reinforce basic commands: sit, stay, down, shake, heel. On the weekends, I typically take the dogs hiking with me, or if it's raining, we'll go on a car ride or to the pet store for some socialization.

I live on the second floor, so let me know if mobility would be an issue for your (senior) dog. Please give me a heads up about any allergies your pet may have (ex. peanut butter or other common dog treats), as well as medications, feeding/potty routines, and if your pet needs to be crated while left alone.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
