Pet care experience

Work @ home, large park, avid hiker

Dogs are the best! I work from home and have a very flexible schedule. I trained/ raised 3 seeing-eye dogs for The Guide Dog Foundation and was a foster volunteer for 2+ years with the Humane Society to take care of young puppies before they get adopted. I don't have any cats/birds/kids/pterodactyls at home, just my dog Luca. He's VERY good with dogs of all sizes and adjusts his energy level accordingly. He'll play with any dog that wants to but he's also quite good at sensing their boundaries and will happily mind his own business around less social dogs. He's an affectionate goof but prefers sleeping on the floor rather than furniture, so if you have a people-oriented 'lap dog' they'd get full dibs as my sidekick on the couch. :) MEDICAL EXPERIENCE--- I was a medic for 10 years- having extensive medical experience is helpful in emergencies and I do know animal CPR. Beyond healthy dogs I also have experience with 3-10 week old puppies, senior dogs, dogs with medical problems, and have worked with semi-paralyzed and disabled dogs in the past. I can administer subcutaneous shots, pills, ear or eye drops, etc.. PUPPIES-- I'm happy to watch younger (un-potty-trained) puppies as long as they have already weaned from their mothers. I used to take care of puppy litters for the humane society and have a large specialty puppy pen & safety gates I can set up when needed.

Maple had a blast with Alex and her dog Luca. They got along extremely well and played endlessly. Alex shared updates and pictures each day to keep me feeling connected.

Saga and Maui were in heaven staying with Alex and her dog Luca. We felt so comfortable leaving them for a night and they came back happy dogs.

Alex took care of my new puppy Clementine and despite her separation anxiety, Alex had Clementine comfortable and more confident almost instantly!

We loved puppy playtime. Alex is incredibly responsive and is very reliable. I left my nine week old puppy with her for an entire day and my pup and her pup had a great time together. Couldn’t be happier!

Our 5 month old lab, Burt, had the best time with Alex and her dog Luca! She sent updates and photos/videos and showed us a great new way to slow feed him because in typical lab fashion he’s a very fast eater. It was so nice to know that our pup was in good hands and having a great time while we were away and I would absolutely recommend Alex to anyone looking for a dog sitter.

LOCATION/ SCHEDULE-- Since I work from home, your dog won't be left alone here and I'm more than happy to take them out on midday hikes/ adventures if they're active. Being at home means I can also accommodate things like midday meals, time-sensitive medications, and frequent potty breaks.

Safety, trust & environment

I only host 1 person's dogs at a time in order to ensure your pets are safe and aren't overwhelmed by the presence of other dog-guests. My 1250-sqft townhouse is on a quiet suburban cul-de-sac with no thru-traffic and I have a private 430-sqft fenced yard/patio. I live 1 block from the South Boulder Open Space hiking trail network and Boulder's largest municipal park (Tantra) is also just 2 blocks away.

Pets

A typical day

I'm very active and can take your dog on as much or little of an adventure as they want. I live next to the creek path and Boulder Open Space trails, which are beautiful for walking and safely away from road traffic. I run half-marathons regularly and can run with your dog if he/she is high-energy, hit the trails if they're avid hikers, bring 'em to Twin Lakes or creek spots for some swimming, or take it easy and just play at home or chill on the couch if they're more mellow. I love the outdoors, so just tell me what you and your dog are comfortable with and I'll always stick to your preferences.
