Dogs treated like family
I have been a fan of dogs my whole life, have owned dogs in the past, and currently share responsibilities of caring for a male boxer cross with a friend. For the last 10 years I have been a reliable port of call for family, close friends, friends of friends and neighbours when a short-term solution is needed. Since hearing about Rover.com recently, I decided to reinstate this account and start offering these services to a wider audience.

Alex was amazing looking after my two dogs. Both of them warmed to him immediately at the meet and greet. Alex came and sat with my dogs at short notice, he tired them out on two walks and gave me plenty of updates. I was confident my dogs were in great hands for 24 hours . Thanks Alex, hope to see you again.

Pedro (our cocker spaniel) loved his stay at Alex's house while we were travelling overseas for a week. It was our first time leaving him with someone we didn't know but a friend recommended Alex and after speaking with him we felt confident he would take care of Pedro. Alex was very easy to communicate with throughout, Pedro had the run of Alex's back garden, was taken on walks along the river and in the woods around Otley, and got plenty of attention. I'm not sure he wanted to leave! Would highly recommend Alex to anyone wanting a caring host in a calm environment, with lots of outdoor adventures!
Al was incredible, couldn’t have asked for a better sitter. He was super friendly and knowledgeable upon meeting him but more importantly was great with my dogs. Also very clean and tidy when feeding/washing up bowls etc. Highly recommend!
Al is great with dogs! He has a real affinity with them and is very knowledgeable about their care needs and behavioural habits. Highly recommend!
Would wholeheartedly recommend Al as a pet sitter. He is incredibly good with dogs, including my quite large and boisterous golden retriever. I'd absolutely trust him to give him plenty of attention and affection but still keep him under control and safe. I've seen the same with other dogs he's looked after for friends - regardless of their size or temperament, he's a very calming presence and takes great care to look after them.
Alex is a great guy and now let's call him Al. If your pet enjoys getting walked, that's no problem because Al is a very active guy, often going hiking, which means plenty of exercise. If your pets are staying overnight, Al lives close to large open fields and the river, which provides lots of good walking destinations. Equally he has a fully secure backyard, meaning that days spent there can mainly be spent sitting in the sun (when we have it) and sniffing plants. We have used Al quite a lot prior to him joining Rover and would highly recommend

Schedule
I work full-time, but only a 5 minute walk from home and will never leave a dog unattended for longer than 4 hours as a rule. My work hours at the office are 8:30-17:00 Mon-Thurs with an hour long break at midday, and 8:30-12:30 on Fridays. I usually use my weekends for hiking so can tailor walks to suit individual dogs and/or take specific exercise requests from owners.

Home characteristics
Safety, trust & environment
I have a high-fenced, secure garden with adequate space and shade and trustworthy, retired neighbours either side of my terrace. On pleasant days when I am required to be in-office, I will often leave Fred (my shared boxer-cross) outside with a big bowl of water so he can relax in the sun (or shade) at his leisure. With regards to overnight stays, it is a preference that dogs stay downstairs in either my kitchen or living room, but I can be flexible if certain dogs display any form of separation anxiety. Any dogs staying in my home must have been treated for fleas as standard so as not to jeopardise future pets from picking up hitch-hikers on their staycation.

A typical day
I live in a great area for dog care with a choice of open areas for off-lead chase and fetch fun. Otley is a doggy paradise with the options of riverside, woodland and also countryside walks! I love interacting with and mentally stimulating your extended family with enrichment and all the TLC they could want.

- Due to my working hours, I prefer not to take dogs with high levels of separation anxiety to reduce stress. I have a secure garden, and will always check with owners first, but on fine days it is possible that your dog can lounge outside on the patio in the sun whilst my neighbours keep a watchful eye on your beloved hound.
