Safety, trust & environment

I’m happy to spend time throwing a ball or playing tug-o-war with your pup, brushing them, giving them treats, whatever you’d like! For walks, let me know where your dog likes to go (I’m sure they’ll tell me otherwise!) and if they have any mobility limitations—I’ll make sure they don’t eat anything weird off the ground! It’s also helpful for me to know if you’ve been working on anything specific in training, or if there’s anything you want me to reinforce or correct while on our walk (e.g., “watch me,” “heel,” “leave it,” etc.). I typically pack freeze-dried turkey treats in my walking bag, but let me know if you have training treats you’d prefer I use. For drop-ins, it helps me to know where food and toys will be, where cats might like to hide if they don’t typically greet at the door, and where cleaning supplies and the vacuum are located in case any messes happen.

Information Alex H. would like to know about your pet

Let me know if your pet has any special needs, distinct behaviors, favorite walking routes, preferred toys, hiding places, etc. that I should know about.

A typical day

Totally depends on what the pet’s routines and preferences are! I walk all over the place on my own and with my own dog, so I know all the good parks in the neighborhood—Fort Mason, Presidio, and all the small parks on Russian Hill, Nob Hill, Pac Heights, and in the Marina.

Pet care experience

I grew up with dogs (Labs, mainly) and have had my own dog, now a senior with special needs, for 12 years. I have extensive experience with positive reinforcement training, using treats or a clicker. My own dog was anxious-aggressive when she was younger, so I’m also comfortable handling dogs with similar fear-based issues (with the exception of prey-driven aggression). I also love big dogs, and am happy to walk them, as long as they’re well-trained and have good recall!

Alex is great! She was available on short notice and had a wonderful visit with Gizmo, taking him for a walk and giving him all the pets while we were away. We never hesitate trusting Alex with our pup!
