I currently work remote for Yale as a PhD student, which allows me a great deal of flexibility to prioritize your pet's needs. On weekdays, I am fully available except maybe a few hours throughout the week for walks, playtime, and feedings. My weekends are completely open for overnight boarding, ensuring your pup is never left alone for long periods and receives constant companionship and care.

Safety, trust & environment
My home is a 'pet-first' environment where safety and mental stimulation go hand-in-hand. For my two cats, I maintain a strict vertical-space setup and regular 'puzzle feeding' to keep them engaged. I am highly experienced in managing slow introductions and reading subtle body language to ensure all animals feel secure. I maintain a chemical-free cleaning routine to protect sensitive paws and noses, and I’m diligent about 'double-door' safety to prevent escapes. Whether it's ensuring fresh water fountains are clean or providing a quiet, crate-ready retreat, I treat every guest with the same meticulous care I give my own cats.

Information Alan Z. would like to know about your pet
Before caring for your pet, I like to understand as much as possible about their unique needs so I can provide a truly tailored experience. This includes their daily routine, energy level, temperament, and any specific preferences or quirks that help them feel comfortable. I’m experienced in accommodating a range of special considerations, including senior pets, anxiety, reactivity, medical needs, or specific behavioral routines. I’m happy to follow detailed instructions for medications, feeding schedules, mobility support, or training reinforcement to ensure consistency and safety. I also like to know what your pet enjoys most—whether that’s high-energy play, quiet companionship, or specific enrichment activities—so I can shape our time together around what makes them happiest. Clear communication is important to me, so I’ll ask thoughtful questions upfront and provide updates along the way. My goal is to make sure your pet feels secure, understood, and well cared for, no matter their needs.
A typical day
A typical day is fully tailored to your pet’s needs and energy level. For active dogs, mornings start with a long walk or structured play to burn energy, followed by enrichment activities like scent games or light training to keep them mentally engaged. For more relaxed or senior pets, the day is paced with gentle walks, calm companionship, and plenty of comfortable downtime. Throughout the day, I balance exercise, stimulation, and rest so your pet stays happy without becoming overstimulated. I stick closely to your pet’s usual routine—meals, commands, habits—so everything feels familiar and stress-free. For cats, I incorporate interactive play, treat-based enrichment, and relaxed hangout time on their terms. You can also expect thoughtful extras like basic grooming (if they enjoy it), a clean and organized space, and consistent updates with photos so you always know how your pet is doing. My focus is on providing attentive, one-on-one care that adapts throughout the day based on how your pet is feeling.

Treating Your Pets Like My Own
Pet care experience
What sets me apart from other sitters is my strong background in animal health and professional husbandry. Through my experience shadowing veterinarians, I’ve developed a trained eye for animal behavior and wellness. I know how to recognize the subtle signs of when a pet is feeling "off" or needs extra attention. I also have professional husbandry experience working with mice in a laboratory setting. This background means I am incredibly detail-oriented, strictly adhere to feeding and medication schedules, maintain rigorous hygiene protocols, and have a gentle touch with delicate or timid animals.

Reviews

Alan is an incredibly thoughtful and considerate pet sitter. We went on vacation for a couple of weeks and were worry-free due to Alan’s responsive communication and reliability. It’s clear he takes his role seriously. We are so grateful to have hired him. He is a trustworthy and kind individual!
Alan is an incredibly responsible and caring pet caregiver who truly treats every animal like family. He’s attentive to each pet’s needs, communicates clearly, and goes the extra mile to make sure pets feel safe and loved. I would trust Alan without hesitation to care for my pets, knowing they’re in kind, capable hands.
If you need a reliable and loving pet sitter, Alan is your guy. I hired him on and off for a year back in Connecticut to watch my dog during long business trips, and his care was exceptional. He is exactly what you want in a caregiver: always on time, never late, and completely dependable. I never once had to worry about my dog while I was traveling because I felt totally safe and secure with Alan in charge. Since moving away, I’ve really missed having such a fantastic, high-quality caregiver. I highly recommend him!
I highly recommend Alan to anyone looking for a responsible and loving pet caregiver! Alan watched my two dogs over the summer while he was in Arizona, and his care was absolutely exceptional. He is incredibly reliable, always timely, and never late. When Alan was taking care of my dogs, I felt completely safe and secure. I never had to worry, think twice, or be distracted from my day because I knew they were receiving high-quality care in the best hands.
