Highlights
Pet care experience
From chinchillas, to dogs.
I’ve had my dog for 13+ years, and I’ve had pets for the entire ~20 years I’ve lived here in San Francisco (since ~2005). While living in SF, I’ve taken care of chickens, chinchillas, ferrets, fish, hamsters, parakeets, snakes, rats, turtles, lizards, dogs, cats, a litter of seven foster kittens, and, most recently, I fostered two two-week-old kittens! I was born in Taiwan, and my parents had two cats and two pet ducks, so I was exposed to animals very early in life! I also lived in Santa Cruz for a few years, from ages two to five, where I learned to care for a parrot and a rabbit.

I needed a very last minute boarder for my pup and Akala gladly accepted my request in less than 24 hours notice!

Akala is a sweetheart and took great care of my 2 medium+ size pups. Was very accommodating - would recommend and will use again in the future!

Akala did a great job taking care of our boy Molé, a 66 lb super mutt! He knew what to do to allow our boy to warm up to everyone! Would definitely book again!

Schedule
I work and study from home, so I'm always available to watch and tend to pets. To avoid accidents, I'll take the dogs out for a morning walk, then to the backyard four to six times throughout the day for quick bathroom breaks, and one last evening walk followed by backyard trips if needed.

Home characteristics
Safety, trust & environment
I provide an AirTag for your dog to wear for the duration of their stay. I've purchased enough of these trackers for each of the dogs, and I even have extras if one breaks. I never let the dogs off leash when on walks - it's not worth the risk. I'm very good at socializing dogs and ensuring they get along with all the people and other dogs that they might meet during their stay. They typically adjust quickly, even if they have separation anxiety. More often than not, when I have other dogs staying with me, they entertain each other and help each other adjust to the new environment. I also watch them while they play so no one gets hurt, and so everyone's having fun! Older/smaller dogs get special care and attention so that younger and/or bigger dogs aren't too rough with them, but I rarely have to intervene. I always stand between the dogs when I feed them to make sure they eat only their own food, and I make sure no one gets territorial. If/when I have to, I separate the potential troublemakers to finish their meals in their own space. My home and my neighborhood are pet-friendly. I have plenty of room inside, a nice backyard, and I live one city block away from Ocean Beach! I also live with my family, so all the dogs get to be in a family setting and get attention from more than just one or two people. They're also welcome to join anyone on the couch, on a desk (if they're small enough), or in bed if they're invited!

A typical day
I walk dogs in a variety of places so they're never bored with the same walks. Most of the time, I take them for walks on Ocean Beach, through Golden Gate Park, and around the Outer Sunset.
