Pet care experience

Friendly family for floofs🐶

We are a family of four with an enormous collective love for animals. My wife and I have both been caring for dogs all our lives. I had a golden retriever named Rudy as a family pet when I was younger. We got him at six weeks and owned him for 11 years until he died. My wife rescued a cat in 2011, named him Felix, and he’s been our family pet since. He is currently nearing 13 years old and thriving! Together we have experience with cats and dogs in every stage of maturity, and we’ve administered medication(s) many times (including insulin and feedings through gastrostomy tube). We are comfortable with all sizes and breeds of dogs. We live across the street from a park, about a 5-minute walk. It’s easily accessible, with multiple fenced-in areas for the dogs to run. We make sure all dogs get off-leash exercise every day unless instructed otherwise. We live in a townhouse, and our neighborhood is excellent for walking and tucked away from busy streets. Our family is extremely active, so we frequent parks outside the neighborhood as well. We love bringing our canine pals along with us everywhere we go! *We DO NOT have a fenced-in yard* We cannot take extra large dogs over the age of two years if they are not leash trained. We need to be able to safely travel the dog to the park to enjoy off-leash exercise.

Adam and Becca provided excellent care for our fur baby. Communication was great from start to finish. He was very clear in describing the environment in which she would be staying. We found them and their home to be very welcoming. They sent us pictures throughout her stay. They even got her a party hat for the New Year's Eve celebration.

Kirby had a great time with Becca, Adam and family! He had lots of walks and playtime with other pups which was a bonus. He came home a tired pup. We loved all the pictures, videos and a few questions to make sure behavior training was as consistent as possible. As a puppy, we knew it might be some extra work and we appreciate all the extra attention.

Calendar and availability

Schedule

We are always available for pet care. If I’m at work, Becca is at home—Vice versa. I work most weekdays while Becca is caring for our two-year-old. Large dogs must be leash trained if they're boarding Monday-Friday; my wife will be alone with them, and she already has an off-leash toddler to chase. She doesn't need a dog pulling her every which way during those daytime walks and when they're walking to pick up our son from school. I play disc golf in my free time, and if we care for a pet, we will incorporate them into every part of our lives. For our kids, playing with a pet is enough to keep them happy for hours, and whenever we have a dog coming over, they treat it like it’s the most important event of their lives.

Safety, trust & environment

We let our pet sleep in bed with us, and if we take care of someone else’s pet, they’re welcome to join in too! Seriously, we accommodate each pet's individual needs. My wife is fantastic at communicating with dogs. She can assess and remedy an issue with a dog before most even realize something is wrong.

Pets

A typical day

It depends on the dog's personality, and what the owner allows, we always check in first, but we usually start the day with a walk and feeding, and then we bring the dog(s) to drop off our eldest at school. Afterward, Becca loves to bring the dog(s) with her to Starbux to get them a pup cup while excusing getting her own latte. Then they go home so the dog(s) can have downtime and play with our youngest. They’ll go to the park for off-leash running around 11 am-2 pm, and then after, they’ll usually nap before Becca walks them with her to pick up our eldest from school at 3 pm. I get off work around 5 pm and either stay home with the kids while Becca brings the dog(s) on a walk with her, or she stays home while I play disc golf, bringing our canine guest with me if it’s appropriate for them.

Are they good with kids? Any special needs, behavioral issues, feeding schedule, diet, and exercise needs. Does your dog wake up at 5 am to go out? (If so, that’s great; we want to prepare for that. Becca will figure out a dogs schedule preferences, but it’s nice knowing ahead of time) Are they shy about pooping? Will they chew up any toy or miscellaneous object on the floor? Do we need to be extra aware during human food time? Do they get along well with other dogs, or must we be careful when passing a fellow walker? The only deal breakers are if a dog honestly doesn’t do well around kids or they are impossible to walk safely on a leash. Our kids are very respectful and can make it work with a less “playful pup.” We are more than happy to make adjustments and tailor to every dog's needs, but if a dog has a strong dislike and feels uncomfortable around kids, we won’t be able to board them.
