Before having a dog of my own, community members would entrust me with their babies for an evening occasionally. This lasted since I was 12 until 15. I would play with them and walk them for several hours. A few years ago I met Melody, a beautiful big golden chihuahua. She was already entering old age. Still, with her small body and big bark, I adored her. She passed away and then I came into care of a husky puppy. I named her Aria in honor of her sister. She has blossomed into a beautiful big girl. Since she became mine, I learned to give much more energy into her physical activity, and I learned about her individual nutrition. Training a stubborn personality like hers has been challenging but fun. It’s taught me to be strict and authoritative so she follows me as a leader. At the same time I spoil her and shower her with lots of love and attention. 5 mile walks are no sweat for me.
