BIG Dog Lover + BIG Fenced in Yard!

After years having a thriving dog boarding business in L.A. we are back at it at our home in Fort Washington which has a huge fenced in yard with a secure 6' fence. REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL DOGS WE BOARD: - A brief meet & greet is required for safety reasons as we have small children, a dog, two cats, and chickens. The chickens stay in a house and run but we don't want dogs tormenting them either. We must ensure everyone gets along and our children are in a safe environment but they are very comfortable with animals! - Dogs MUST be well socialized with children AND dogs We are a homeschool family that also primarily works from home so we are usually home and can let the pups out and attend to them as needed. We will work our activities schedule around boarding but typically aren't gone for more than 4 hours regardless. If that is too long, simply let me know. Special accommodations can be made for young puppies - my favorite despite the chaos! ABOUT ME: I grew up working with wild and domestic animals at The Reston Animal Park which is now under new ownership and called NOVA Wild and working with client's pets through our family cleaning and organizing business. Our love for animals evolved the business and we ended up delivering litters of puppies to caring for massive exotic fish tanks and much more! I was also the owner of two beautiful German Shepherds (now have passed but always my beloved brothers) that I trained to do everything from obstacle courses on the playground to our game "find it." Now I have a large Rotty mix I rescued as a puppy named Paco who is a guard dog for his family but he's completely friendly (a little too much) when I tell him that it's ok. He has been well socialized with dogs and people since he was a small puppy and although the cats aren't his BFFs they get along all right. My whole family loves animals and I especially love BIG dogs - Great Danes to Great Pyrenees. We like the little fellows too but not the yippy types that bite at your feet and are prone to snap. Just being honest ok! Drool, fur and energy don't bother us! If you're going away for a while or have a bunch of pets, ask me about discounts for 10+ day stays! In addition, I can train and walk dogs. I can seriously say I can walk any dog. I used to walk my two Shepherds at the same time and just one outweighed me by 10 pounds. Even if they saw a squirrel or a cat, I could handle it. Training your dog can lead to much more enjoyable walks and time with your pet! It is worth the investment! I can train your dog independently and after a few sessions, the owner can become part of the process to learn how they need to learn to command and be the master. Dogs actually love and need discipline, just like children do! Nobody wants to do bad, including our critters. All dogs we board will receive complimentary mini-training lessons too! Feel free to ask me any questions and now go give your pup a kiss on the nose for me!

Abi and Ian were wonderful with our girl Chloe. We would recommend them to anyone needing a caring and loving dog sitter. Our dog needs insulin twice a day and they were great about seeing that she was well taken care of. Thank you Abi and Ian for taking such good care of Chloe while we were out of town. We will see you both soon.

Abigail is an EXCELLENT dog sitter!!! I highly recommend her pet sitting services! I was recently stuck in a difficult situation requiring a last minute sitter for my dog, Mowgli. I had never used a pet sitter before and was a bit hesitant at first to leave my dog with a stranger, but Abigail and Ian took great care of Mowgli!! Kennel stays always leave Mowgli stressed and exhausted when he returns home, but he was so calm and relaxed when he came home from Abigail's house that it was like he never left home while I was on vacation :) FANTASTIC SITTER!!!!! I will request Abigail's help again the next time I need a pet sitter!!!!!! -N.

Schedule

We are a homeschool family that also works primarily from home so we let the dogs out and feed them as needed. If we have to leave the house that is usually no longer than 1.5-4 hours but this can typically be adjusted based off our fuzzy clients - the dogs! We are outside a lot so that means our dog is too. Dogs love to walk around and check out what we're doing, run around with the kids, and we often throw a stick or ball around for them. We have plenty of shady spots as well as a covered outdoor dog bed.

Safety, trust & environment

We have a fully fenced in yard on 1/2 acre with secure locking gates. The fence is 6 feet high on all sides except part of one side is 5'. The fence goes low to the ground so dogs can't easily sneak out underneath. We keep the gates locked with a key lock &/or a lift up and over lock at all times. As for the interior, we can keep dogs restricted to the main level as the basement has a door and gate so the cats can have the basement to themselves, and the upstairs has a baby gate installed as well. The dogs are allowed on the leather couch on the main level and I encourage owners to bring their favorite toys so we can play with them. We allow dogs to sleep in our large bedroom (plenty of room for a doggie bed) or in the hall. We encourage people to bring their dog's bedding even if it is a blanket they like.

Pets

A typical day

The dogs are let out to relieve themselves in the morning and may stay out for a while or just a few minutes. Dogs usually want to play together so they spend more outside together for that reason but come in to relax, check out what the kids are doing, get some pets and loving, and food and water of course. We are usually outside doing chicken chores, gardening, or something by the late morning so the dogs join us. We are constantly in and out of the house and our dog is required to be outside if the kids are outside for security reasons so that means they are patrolling, sniffing, and lounging outside quite a bit on nice days. We may throw a ball or stick around or spray them with the hose if its a hot day. We just go with the flow!

What is the dog's schedule for eating, walking/running, relieving themselves? Does the dog have any aggression issues? Has the dog been socialized with other dogs and people? What kind of games do they like to play, if any? What commands/tricks do they know? Does the dog have any medications or special needs? Our breed preferences are big ones : ) My favorite kinds of dogs are German Shepherds, Labs, Great Danes, Pitbulls, Malamutes, Retrievers, etc. We do like little dogs but excessive barking, snapping, and skittish attitudes are not for us!
