Availability
I’m a PhD student at Southampton, so my schedule is very flexible. I usually spend around three hours on campus during weekday working hours, but this is easy to work around your pet’s routine. Most of my work is laptop‑based, meaning I can often study from your home if needed and keep your pet company throughout the day. I’m available for morning, afternoon, and evening visits, and I can accommodate both regular weekly bookings and one‑off requests. I’m also happy to follow your dog or cat’s existing schedule—feeding, walks, medication, or training—so everything stays consistent and stress‑free for them.

Safety, trust & environment
When caring for pets in your home, I keep their routine, environment, and comfort exactly as they’re used to. I follow all feeding schedules, walk lengths, training rules, and medication needs to maintain consistency and reduce stress. As a PhD student, I can spend plenty of time keeping your pet company with walks, play, enrichment, or calm downtime depending on what they enjoy. I’m experienced with puppies, seniors, and nervous or rescue pets, and I always go at their pace. I treat your home with respect and keep everything tidy, and I’m happy to send regular updates so you feel completely at ease while you’re away.
Information Abigail J. would like to know about your pet
It’s really helpful to know your pet’s routine, energy levels, and any specific needs before I care for them. This includes feeding times, walk preferences, training rules, medication, and any behaviours I should be aware of (e.g., nervousness, reactivity, separation anxiety, or quirks). I also like to know what your pet loves—favourite toys, treats, games, and comfort items—so I can keep their day familiar and fun. Anything that helps me understand their personality and make them feel safe is always appreciated.
A typical day
A typical day with your pet is based entirely around their routine and what they enjoy most. We’ll start with their usual morning walk or playtime, followed by breakfast and some company while I get on with my PhD work. Throughout the day I can offer a mix of enrichment games, gentle training practice, cuddles, or quiet downtime—whatever suits their personality. If they’re energetic, we’ll go for extra walks or explore their favourite routes. Evenings usually involve another walk or play session all at their pace. My goal is to keep their day familiar, fun, and stress‑free.

Experienced, Reliable Pet Sitter!
Pet care experience
I’ve grown up with dogs and cats of all ages and sizes, from tiny Jack Russells to Rottweilers and XL Bullies. I have hands‑on experience at Cardiff Dogs Home and currently volunteer at Southampton Second Chance Animal Rescue, working with a wide range of breeds, temperaments, puppies, and senior pets. I’ve previously cared for a Weimaraner through regular house sitting, and I’ve worked with many rescue dogs including Frenchies and Spaniels. I’m confident with enrichment games, basic training support, and following any routines or rules you already use at home. I can also safely give medication to both cats and dogs. What sets me apart is my calm, patient approach and my ability to read body language—especially helpful with nervous or rescue pets. Your pet’s safety, comfort, and happiness are always my priority.

Reviews

We’re so happy we found Abi on Rover to look after our dog Barney, and I honestly couldn’t be happier with how everything went. Before the stay, Abi came over to meet Barney, which immediately put us at ease. It was clear she genuinely cared about getting to know him and understanding his routine. During the four nights she stayed at our house, she looked after him brilliantly and followed all the instructions we left. Abi kept us updated every day with messages and photos, which really reassured us while we were away. Barney looked relaxed and happy in every update, and when we got home it was obvious he’d been well cared for and comfortable the whole time. It’s such a relief to find someone reliable and kind who we can trust in our home and with Barney. Even our neighbours commented on how great she was with him! I wouldn’t hesitate to book Abi again and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a dog sitter. If I could give 10 stars, I absolutely would. Thank you, Abi, for taking such great care of Barney!
Sully loved Abi as soon as he met her and we loved seeing him relaxed and happy - and getting regular updates and photos while we were away. Will be very happy for Abi to come and sit Sully whenever we are away.

Abi was brilliant, despite a rather eventful evening looking after Patch at our house! Great communication, very sweet with Patch and not at all fazed by us providing the wrong address and a power cut! I would not hesitate to book Abi again ☺️

Fantastic communication from the beginning. I felt Archie was in very safe hands. I received regular updates and he was looked after very well. I plan to book Abigail again
