Availability

I have weekly commitments on some afternoons and evenings. I am unavailable on Sunday mornings, and some Saturdays. But I am usually quite flexible, so even if your plans conflict with my schedule, reach out to me and I'll see what I can do. During overnight stays, I do not provide constant care and will not be staying with pets 24/7 as I have other commitments and drop-by visits with other pets during the day. Pets should be able to be on their own for at least 4 hours at a time, although I do my best to be at home with pets as much as possible. *I am currently not available for overnight housesitting bookings, but I am fully available for drop-by visits and dog walking.*

Safety, trust & environment

I am willing to care for most any animal, including dogs, cats, horses, chickens, goats, fish, reptiles, etc. Drop-by visits can be booked for any animal. I will not accept overnight housesitting bookings for homes with only cats. I have a small dog, Dexter, who comes with me when I stay overnight. If your pets do not get on well with dogs, I do provide drop by visits where I come (without my dog) once or twice a day to take care of your pets. Before accepting any booking, I will schedule a meet-and-greet with you to go over your pet's care, go on an introductory walk (if applicable), and pick up a key or code. For overnight bookings, I will bring my dog to the meet-and-greet to ensure that he will get along with your pets during our stay. Whether I am staying over or stopping by, I will be diligent to care for your pets including letting them out, cleaning up their messes, feeding, grooming, and exercising, according to each pet's individual needs. I am also willing to water plants, bring in the mail, vacuum, or perform other tasks that may need to be done while you are gone.

Information Abby W. would like to know about your pet

It would be appreciated if you could give some information about your animals and provide a meet and greet before I work with them. This will help me know your preferences for their care. Some things I may ask you include: Feeding schedule (free feed or set times, dry or canned, and how much) Treats Food limitations/ allergies Any medications Daily routine including bathroom schedule Furniture etiquette Behavior when alone (should I put toys up, expect to clean up a few messes, etc...) Location of cleaning supplies (broom or vacuum, carpet cleaner, towels, trash bags, etc...) Location of harness and leash Behavior on walks (do they get along with other animals, are they trained to only heel on the left, etc...) Fears (thunderstorms, fireworks, etc...) Any health issues or past medical history that I should know Emergency vet, number and location Do you have a key, garage opener, or door code? Will you be expecting anyone to stop by (yard maintenance, cleaners, etc...)? Do you need me to bring in the mail? Do you want me to water indoor plants or the garden? Note: I expect any dog that I care for to be trained, at the bare minimum, to sit, stay, come, and not jump up on visitors. If I am asked to walk them, I also expect the dog to be trained to heel and have good recall, regardless if they are on or off leash. If a dog pulls while on walks, I will be utilizing training aids to discourage that behavior, and may ask to discontinue walks if the behavior does not improve. (I do not use any collars, leashes, harnesses, or equipment that are not specifically provided for a dog by the client.) During the meet and greet, I will ask that you go on an introductory walk to show me how you handle your dog(s) and train them during walks. I am only able to walk, at maxiumum, two dogs at a time, if well behaved.

A typical day

Keep in mind that I'll be bringing my dog, Dexter, with me when I house sit. I will be confirming that he gets along well with your pets beforehand. He is friendly towards other dogs, cats, horses, chickens and livestock. If your pets do not get along well with other dogs, I do provide the drop-in service, where I can visit and care for your pets once or twice a day, and I would not bring my dog. But if I am spending the night, I will need to bring Dexter with me. Also keep in mind that I have commitments a few nights each week, and on some weekends, so if this conflicts with your pet's schedule, I may have to decline.

Pet care experience

I've had a passion for animals ever since I can remember. I have pet sat for several years, caring for dogs, cats, horses, freshwater aquariums, chickens, livestock, reptiles, birds and more, so I have experience with many types of animals. I have almost always lived with dogs or cats, and am happy to provide care for any type of breed. I currently own a sweet little Miniature Pinscher mix named Dexter, and I usually bring him with me when I house sit. I have worked with horses extensively throughout my life, and I am comfortable caring for and exercising them as needed. In my teens, I owned my own horse and was a member of a 4-H club for over five years. I studied Equine Science in Montana, and have since worked as a stable hand, stall cleaner, and horse excerciser at various equestrian facilities. I currently own four planted tanks containing leopard danios, rummynose tetras, guppies, chili rasboras, nerite snails, and kuhli loaches. I am quite informed on proper fishkeeping maintenance, and I am willing to feed and perform water changes as needed. I do not yet have any experience with cichlids, tanks over 40 gallons, or saltwater aquariums. Regarding other pets and livestock, I am happy to provide any sort of care that is required for any animal, including feeding, cleaning enclosures, collecting eggs, etc. I also have gardening experience and currently own a myriad of houseplants, so I am willing to water, prune, fertilize, harvest, etc. as needed as well. Life should be about enjoying every blessing God gives us, each moment, and animals are certainly the best at doing that. I look forward to meeting you and your pets!
