Pet care experience

Future vet, life-long animal lover

Animal care and welfare has ALWAYS been at the center of my life. Growing up, I tended to my family and friends’ cats, dogs, chinchillas, toads, and more. I began dog walking for neighbors in 2014, and since then have been picking up gigs dog walking, house sitting, and exercising/playing with pets in my free time! This past semester I lived in South Africa and learned the basics of both wildlife and domestic animal care - devoting my time to bottle feeding newborns, providing physical therapy to disabled animals, and giving animals of all kinds the TLC they need and deserve. I also helped care for our senior and vulnerable animals, where I learned how to read animals and assess their needs through observing body language and energy levels! Next year I will begin studying biology and animal science in university - with the ultimate hopes of one day becoming a veterinarian. I have two cats of my own, Ophelia and Phoebe, and know just how important it is to have the right person look after them while I’m away! :)

Safety, trust & environment

As I’m living in an apartment, I am offering service in my clients’ homes. For the past three years, I have been building experience pet sitting for days/weeks at a time, and have grown comfortable adapting to new environments and understanding how to make the animals happy and safe in their homes while their humans are away! I have found that adjusting to the animals’ wishes, such as sleeping where they feel comfortable, allows their daily routines to continue on as normal - eliminating the stress of a new temporary caretaker.

Like many pet owners, I was always torn about what to do with my dogs when going out of town. Thankfully, there is Abby! Abby has taken care of my two Boston Terriers, a senior and a wild-child pup, for many years and they love love love her. The older dog has special needs (blind, deaf, and has epilepsy) and the younger, is largely unsocialized to other dogs (but learning). Abby gives the individual attention each dog needs. She is sensitive to their physical care needs and provides the gentle "training" the puppy needs. Abby knows how to read each of their personalities and particularities so I always feel super comfortable that they happy and well taken care of when I am away.

Abby is a responsible and caring animal lover! She took wonderful care of our pets for a long weekend, and our household is complicated: we have a cat with diabetes (and so needs shots twice a day), an elderly (blind and deaf) dog with a special diet, and two young dogs who need exercise. She communicated with us clearly and in a timely manner. All of our pets (and our house) were in great shape when we got home.

My dog loves Abby! We adopted a rescue dog during the pandemic that had experienced trauma and was very reactive. Abby was the first person outside of our immediate household that our dog trusted. Abby has a calm, gentle way with animals. Our dog loves it when she comes to our house and immediately goes to her and wants to be with her. I highly recommend Abby as a loving pet caregiver!

Abby is an extremely caring and responsible pet sitter. She doesn’t just do the basics like feeding and cleaning out litter boxes, she puts in extra time to play and groom and cuddle with your pets. Her love of animals shines through. Abby will take photos of your fur babies and send them to you and is quick to respond to questions or status updates. I highly recommend her to anyone needing her services.

As all pet owners know, it’s helpful to know how your dog interacts with their neighbors and fellow canine friends - so we know whether to take the back roads or make pit stops to popular dog parks!! I’ve worked with diabetic dogs, senior dogs, and other disabled animals that required both oral and non-oral injections and various medications. I will obviously prioritize the health and well-being of your animal(s), so knowing their medication schedules is very important!!
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
