Availability

I currently work part-time with varying hours throughout the day and week. My availability decreases over the summer as that is when I am needed more often at my other job. Since my schedule varies so much I may not be able to keep my availability calendar as up-to-date as I would like. I will let you know immediately upon request what my schedule looks like during the days/times you need and I am more than willing to try and work something out to still give your animals the care they deserve.

Safety, trust & environment

I love taking walks with my dog, especially on wilderness trails. I do adhere to leave-no-trace principles, so I keep dogs leashed at all times, and an appropriate distance from other walkers, as well as cleaning up properly behind them. I have extensive experience in handling excited puppies, especially ones that tend to jump. So I know how to safely prevent that behavior, and how to train dogs away from jumping. My biggest goal is to keep essentially the same schedule with your pets as you did. Having their people leave for any amount of time often makes them upset and miss you. So keeping their normal routine is super important in keeping them happy and healthy. I am a very careful, responsible, and detail-orientated person. This helps me adapt to new environments and situations quickly and it means that I am always thinking about safety.

Information Abby K. would like to know about your pet

Please let me know if you're animal has any special needs or considerations for care. I am experienced with both oral and topical medication. I don't have any breed restrictions, but general knowledge of the temperament and activity level of your pet is greatly appreciated. Please also let me know if your pet is in or may become in heat during our stay. While I have some experience with small dogs in heat it is not the most extensive experience and I may not be the best sitter in those situations. I acknowledge that I am not always the best fit for some and that I always have more to learn.

A typical day

Part of my current job is designing and implementing new animal enrichment items to keep both their minds and their bodies active. Taking walks and exploring helps dogs get all that energy out of their systems and helps senior dogs who have sore muscles. Playing with cats with a multitude of different toys makes their hunting instincts happy. Plus there is of course the multitude of pets and cuddles that each animal gets. I'm not one to force someone to do something they don't want to. I really respect the boundaries of both animals and people and know when it's best to let them enjoy your company from a distance. Every animal is different, with their unique personality and requirements, so every day would be a new and different one tailored to what best works for your pet.

Pet care experience

I've taken care of dogs of every kind for as long as I can remember. Family and friends have all relied on me to walk, feed, and keep their pets entertained. I grew up with animals my entire life, having - a rabbit, 3 cats, 3 dogs, hamsters, fish, and hermit crabs! I currently have 2 cats of my own who are truly my fur babies, and 1 dog who I still consider my own even if she lives at home with my parents. I have experience with cats, large and small dogs, puppies, dogs in heat, reactive dogs, reptiles (geckos, turtles, bearded dragons, and snakes), rodents (rats, rabbits, and degus), chickens, and insects. I will take care of your fur baby of any kind like they are my own and give them the love and attention they deserve. My duo degrees in Biology and Environmental science, as well as my job working with the ambassador animals at the Seneca park zoo, has given me a unique basis of knowledge that I can utilize while taking care of your animals. I understand that having their parents leave for an extended time can be stressful for an animal any my main goal is to make sure that they are as comfortable as possible in their own homes.

Abby continues to be wonderful with our dog. She is prompt with messages (and responses), sent pictures and the house was in great order when we returned. We will continue to use Abby for future bookings.

Abby was a house and dog sitter for my dog Bailey. She was accommodating on short notice and very responsive via the app. She walked Bailey often as was testament to how tired she was when I returned home. I gladly recommend Abby for those looking for a friendly and reliable sitter/walker!

We have two huge dogs and finding people who can handle them is not easy. Abby was wonderful with them. We could tell they were happy and healthy upon our return. Abby went above and beyond!
