As I already have an 11 yo Hungarian Vizsla, and my mum's 10 yo Chihuahua lives next door, pet care is naturally part of my daily routine. I work from home providing part‑time admin support for an animal osteopathy business, so I’m around most of the time and able to give dogs plenty of love and attention throughout the day. My husband often works from home too, which means there is almost always someone present and dogs are never left for long periods. Every morning starts with a good walk, whatever the weather, to help burn off energy and set a calm tone for the day. Dogs are allowed quiet time to chill / relax and are let out regularly. When the weather allows I keep the doors open to the secure garden so they can wander in and out freely. I also have a large 4x4 suitable for safe dog transport when needed. The routine is steady, predictable and designed to help dogs feel relaxed, included and well cared for.

Safety, trust & environment

The safety and wellbeing of the doggy guests is always top of the priority list. My home has a large, securely fenced garden where dogs can play and explore. For transparency, there is a fish pond in the garden and dogs are supervised when outside. Indoors, I spend most of my day in our spacious kitchen‑diner, which provides a clean, comfortable and relaxed environment for dogs to settle in. I treat every guest as one of our own pets and aim to make their stay feel like a home‑from‑home. I ask owners to bring their dog’s own bed or crate so they have a familiar, cosy place to sleep. I am happy to follow each dog’s usual routine, including feeding times, rest periods and daily walks, with plenty of extra exercise in the garden. I am responsible, reliable and experienced with dogs, having had dogs all my life, and having previously run a home boarding business for 7 years. I pride myself on offering a safe, caring, loving and reassuring environment for every pet that stays.

Information Abbey S. would like to know about your pet

I kindly request that all dogs staying are fully house trained, friendly with other dogs and people, have no history of aggression and do not chew or destroy household items. Dogs must be up to date with their vaccinations, regularly wormed and on effective flea prevention. The more information I have about your dog, the better I can understand and care for them. Please let me know about any health conditions, medication requirements, or dietary restrictions, as well as any allergies or sensitivities. It is also helpful to know whether you are comfortable for them to be walked on or off lead, if they bark excessively, or if they have any fears such as thunder or fireworks. I also welcome any other useful information about your dog’s routine, behaviour, preferences or quirks — anything that helps to ensure they have the safest, happiest and most comfortable stay possible.

A typical day

I encourage a meet & greet before any booking so that I can make sure I am the right fit for your dog and understand their routine. Drop‑off and collection times are usually between 8–9am or 6–7pm. A typical day starts with a good morning walk, to burn off energy and set a calm tone. Dogs are fed according to their usual routine and have plenty of time to relax and settle. Throughout the day they’re let out regularly to explore and play in the garden. You are welcome to bring toys for them, but please be aware these sometimes get lost or destroyed! When the weather is nice, I keep the doors open so they can wander in and out freely. In the lighter months, I sometimes head out for a second walk in the evening to round off the day. My aim is to give them lots of love and affection while keeping their routine familiar, balanced and enjoyable, with a mix of exercise, rest and play (if they want to).

A Loving Home Away From Home

Pet care experience

Hi, I'm Abbey. Around 10 years ago, I ran a successful home dog boarding business (for 7 years), caring for dogs of all ages, sizes, and personalities. I absolutely loved welcoming dogs into my home and giving them a safe, happy, and loving environment while their owners were away and I'm excited to be opening my home to dogs again. Dogs have always been a huge part of my life, and I can't imagine a home without one. I've owned dogs for many years and understand just how important it is to find someone you can trust to care for your beloved pet when you're away. My goal is to provide a genuine home-from-home experience where your dog will receive plenty of love, attention, playtime, and cuddles. I know every dog is unique, so I take the time to understand their individual needs, routines and personalities to help them feel relaxed and comfortable. I look forward to meeting you and your wonderful dog!

Abbey looked after my nervous rescue dog, Preston, for a week and I honestly couldn’t have asked for better care. She took time to make sure he felt safe and settled and was patient, calm and incredibly understanding of his quirks. I received regular updates throughout his stay and he came home happy, relaxed and clearly very comfortable with her. I would absolutely recommend Abbey to anyone looking for a kind, reliable and experienced dog carer and will certainly use her again.

I can highly recommend Abbey and the dog boarding services she offers. Abbey is experienced, professional and, above all, it is clear she genuinely loves dogs. Bertie, my Border Terrier, is always so happy to arrive, and seems to feel completely at home with her. Knowing he’s being so well cared for gives me complete peace of mind and allows me to relax while I’m away. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Abbey to anyone looking for a caring, trustworthy home-from-home for their dog.
