9. Tarah S.
About: I've had a dog as part of my family for as long as I can remember. I would walk, feed, and clean up after them as I grew up. At the age of 16, I found my pup, Tessa, at the Animal Humane and got my first job just so I could have her (Yes, I paid for everything for her by myself). Since then I have had her by my side through finishing high school, finishing my undergrad, moving cities and states. When I was finishing my undergrad I decided to get another pup so my girl could have a sibling especially once I started working full time. I got my boy, Haka, at six weeks old and now he is over 2yrs. Growing up I use to walk my neighbors pug multiple times a week. When in high school we had multiple dogs in the household that required extra care and attention due to their different personalities and temperaments. With my dog being bigger than the other dogs in my family I had to take measures to ensure all of them remained safe. This mainly involved having different play times and feeding them separately. For example: One of the dogs was very territorial over toys and would lash out at any other dog that came around, however, this pup was the smallest one so it was essential for me to mitigate the opportunity for a bad situation. This involved monitoring the situation at all times when the toy was out, keeping the dogs separated, or removing the toys altogether. I just moved to the San Diego area in May from New Mexico. I'm currently working on my MBA in Engineering Management from home, so I tend to be home the majority of my time. I do not have a fixed schedule which allows me to be very flexible with my time. I like to go outside every 1-2 hours with my dogs for fresh air and a break away from my studies. I have a yard that wraps around the back to the front of my home which allows my dogs to run around and play. Since I have high energy dogs we frequently walk the Tijuana Estuary that is 0.2 miles away or go up to the Veterans Dog Park that is 1 mile away. I have a yard that wraps around the right side of my home from the back to the front. There is a gate that separates the back from the front yard that I usually keep open throughout the day when I am home. The back fence is wood and 6ft in height while the front is chain link and about 4ft in height. I have two dogs, Tessa and Haka. Haka is 2yrs, very social, and loves to run around and play. Tessa is 10yrs, more independent, and rather do her own thing now that she is getting older. Tessa does love to play with her brother who is slightly larger than her. However, she is a herding breed and does find enjoyment in trying to herd, which can mean her trying to nip the back of dogs' legs. Due to this, I prefer to keep her out of the mix or place a muzzle on her so she can't do this especially when it comes to smaller dogs. As I mentioned above, I have a gate that separates the back and front yards so keeping dogs separated is easy to do. The safety of mine and your pets is the main priority, so transparency is very important. All animals have different personalities, and stress of a new environment can change how they behave so its important that I know how they may react so I can put proper measures in place to keep everyone safe.

15. Christina L.

“Christina is a very thoughtful sitter! She has a great set up. Extra dog crates, a gate before the door so no one runs out, covered couch she lets the dogs up on, and a good little yard. My dog had a blast playing with her and other dog she was watching. We were delayed in our travels and she was very flexible! Told me not to rush and sent a ton of pictures letting me know Lyra was having a good time. She even let me book last minute with a quick meet and greet the night before. Thanks Christina!”
