answered a question Why am I paying for a 30 min dog walk, when at most, I’m getting 25 min?

When you pay for a 30min walk, you've paid for 30min of service. As you said, this includes leasing and unleashing, wate...

answered a question Do you repeatedly pick up keys from same customers without being paid for your time?

I've had this request. I offer clients the option to drop keys at my home (in a lockbox). Some do this and others are quick to make arrangements for a lockbox at their own homes.

commented question Is Drop-in time for 2 cats 1 hour or 30 minutes?

A drop-in is 30min regardless of the number of animals. If you charge for additional animals (as I think most people do) it does not increase the time.

answered a question Where does it show that a night of BOARDING is basically a 24 hour period?

I ask for pick-up and drop-off times prior to booking. I explain that my pricing is based on 24hrs and that I charge by a daycare rate beyond that. Of course, it's subject to my availability, and I don't get into hourly pricing. I charge for extra time based on half day (<4hrs) or full day (>4hrs). Getting clients to commit to specific times is important to me and I find that making them pay generally works. If someone doesn't abide the time frame I'd hesitate to work for them. But, I haven't had this issue because I think the advance notice weeds out the moochers.

commented question How do I verify my Rover employment and obtain a copy of my pay stubs?

As a Rover sitter you are not an employee of Rover. For income verification purposes, you may be better off providing bank statements and income tax records.

commented answer Expecting food to be included?

I totally agree

commented answer Floating around the FB Rover Groups - changes clients see when we archive?????????????

I most often archive when I don't hear back from a potential client. It feels petty to say "I haven't heard from you so I'm archiving your request." Instead, I just wait what I feel is a reasonable amount of time before archiving.

answered a question Drop-in visits showing as unavailable in profile?

I checked my own profile and I'm having the same problem. Hopefully it's just a temporary glitch in the platform.

commented answer From what I have read, you don't have to have a background check, but Rover won't let me go live until I have one. Do I actually have to get one before people can hire me?

I was charged $15 for my background check.

answered a question Last minute cancellations for daily walks?

I feel the same way about daycare. The cancellation policy is always flexible. I only take one dog at a time so a last minute cancellation means I lose out on the opportunity entirely.

I did contact Rover about their policy and the customer service response was that they maintain these flexible cancellation policies for the "short-term" services like walks and daycare. They recommended that I discontinue daycare if I'm not satisfied with the flexible cancellation policy.

The explanation doesn't make sense to me because daycare is not short term, and we can set our policy for drop-ins which are the same time commitment as walks.

answered a question When will better sitter availability policy be implemented?

I frequently get requests for services on dates when I have marked myself as unavailable, and even for animals that are outside my preferences (e.g. too big). The requests come through with a message from Rover acknowledging that the request does not match my settings.

I have also been in conversation with multiple people for the same dates. I try to do first come, first served- but if another request is more convenient (e.g. previous client, better timing) I will do what is best for me.

As a sitter, I wish it was possible to be more specific about dates and times when I am available through the Rover calendar, but it's limited.

I understand it is time-consuming to message multiple sitters, and frustrating to find out some are not available, despite their apparent openings. I really appreaciate when owners close the loop and tell me they've found someone else and don't require my services any more. That let's me manage myself and not leave anyone else hanging.

answered a question Destructive dog?

I think you need to go with your gut feeling. If the owner asks how are things? I would tell them there are issues, maybe not blow by blow, but something like- he's having accidents and chewing fixtures.

If they aren't inquiring I would probably wait until you reach out to confirm pick-up. Something like, just want to confirm pick up for 4pm tomorrow. We've had some accidents and chewing during the stay.

Also, I understand he's not accustomed to a crate, but I would still try that when you aren't home. You have a right to crate him to minimize damage- especially because the owners are not really responsible for the damage.

commented question I recently had a request for two dogs boarding Jan 10th-June 14th?

I've never had this kind of request- my longest board was 5 nights. I would hesitate to board an unfamiliar dog for more than that, without having a test night or even several. Someone looking to board for months should be willing to pay to find the right fit.

commented answer 2 dogs (same house) that can't walk together, what would you do?

I agree if they want 30min walks for each dog then it should be billed as one hour.

answered a question Dog brought in fleas, what do I do?

I haven't had this problem...yet. But, I keep Capstar brand tablets (active ingredient: Nitenpyram) just in case. One dose kills fleas in about 6 hours. Of course, I would contact the owner before administering any medication. It's important to quarantine the dog in a crate or bathroom to prevent infestation of your home.

answered a question Unsure if I should report her or not…?

You can report her for requesting cash. Unfortunately, because you paid her cash you don't have any other recourse (e.g. bad review, reimbursement for missing items).

commented answer Customer adding additional info after booking?

Can't the booking be modified to include the cat?

commented answer What are the Holiday Dates for 2019?

Go into Rover through a browser, not the app. Choose any sitter for any service and click the link "Additional Services & Rates." There is a line "Holiday Rate" with "i" in super script, inside a circle. Click there and you will see Rover's holidays 2017- Jan 2020

answered a question Dog over lap?

I think it's fine to separate the dogs or even crate them if they aren't getting along, provided it's a temporary situation. As long as the owners know there are other dogs in the mix I think it's a reasonable expectation that they may have to be separated at times.

answered a question What are the Holiday Dates for 2019?

Rover has holidays through early 2020 viewable under the holiday rate information icon(upper right corner).

Dec 20, 2018 - Jan 2, 2019, Jan 18-21, 2019, Feb 15-18, 2019, May 24-27, 2019, Jul 3-7, 2019, Aug 30, 2019 - Sep 2, 2019, Oct 11-15, 2019, Nov 27-30, 2019, Dec 20, 2019 - Jan 1, 2020, and Jan 17-20, 2020.

commented question What do I do if an owner messages me to cancel the booking but does not formally cancel on Rover?

You can request the cancellation. There is a drop down menu of reasons and you'll select "Owner's plans have changed." Your cancellation policy will determine if you are entitled to any partial payment. It will not affect your standing.

commented question How to have a stress free meet and greet?

That's tough because I totally expect and accept that owners may want to see how the dogs interact. I think the best thing you can do is to stipulate your preferences in the initial communication. It will turn some people away for sure, but others will be willing, and you can move forward with them

commented question What is actually included in house sitting? And, what if the house is a dirty disaster?

I don't think 3- 30min walks is unreasonable. Have you contacted the owner about the cat issue? You could always add to your booking. About the M&G, I like to do these more than a day ahead- makes it easier to decline if it feels uncomfortable. You should always be able to see where you are staying.

commented question How to charge if owner ask to house sit dog for 5 hours?

This sounds like daycare, but in your client's home. You can look and see what others in your area charge for daycare and then choose an amount that is right for you.

answered a question As a sitter, is it a bad idea to take owners dogs to the dog park (with their permission) ?

I will take a dog to the dog park if the owner encourages it, and usually after the dog and I are well acquainted (so not day 1). For highly social dogs sometimes it's the best form of activity. I watch closely and haven't had any issues.
