Destructive dog?

We are watching a dog who is not kennel trained. He is peeing everywhere and today when we came home from church, he had chewed part of our baseboard. Do you usually tell the owner while they are on vacation if a dog is doing things like this or do you wait until they come home? It's not like there's a lot that can be done at this point. When I give them updates on their dog, I don't want them to stress, but I don't want to pretend that everything is fine and then dump a bad review on them when they come home. What do you do?

I think you need to go with your gut feeling. If the owner asks how are things? I would tell them there are issues, maybe not blow by blow, but something like- he's having accidents and chewing fixtures.

If they aren't inquiring I would probably wait until you reach out to confirm pick-up. Something like, just want to confirm pick up for 4pm tomorrow. We've had some accidents and chewing during the stay.

Also, I understand he's not accustomed to a crate, but I would still try that when you aren't home. You have a right to crate him to minimize damage- especially because the owners are not really responsible for the damage.

I agree Brittney. I don't allow dogs to roam free when no one is home. The one I have now roams free at his home. It's a struggle getting his 120lb butt in my Great Dane sized crate and he shreds the bedding when he's in there. But it's better than potential property damage/marking.
