marked best answer Is there any way to block/remove people from contacting you?

I've had one person who insisted on leaving her dogs with me, last minute and without a meet & greet. She was out of town and her last sitters did no longer want to take them in. I told her no, as I had a full house, but she insisted, so eventually I just stopped responding - but her messages continued, making me feel harassed. Is there anything that I can do to remove myself from the list of available sitters to her?

asked a question Is there a new formula for search result standings?

Does anyone know what the new algorithm looks for when placing search results? I get requests daily and book 98% of the requests I get -- I have 50+ reviews and good standing, however there are newer profiles that are scoring higher in search results and just wanted to see if anyone knew why?

answered a question What to do when client does not show up and doesn't answer your messages or call?

Nicole - I would just leave it be. Do you have a cancellation or no show policy?

answered a question Does anyone have safe tips for keeping a home smelling fresh?

We bought a carpet cleaner and use it pretty often after vacuuming. We also have candles in hard to reach places, diffusers, and wax warmers.

answered a question I have booked my sitter for January 15 to January 24. How and when do I pay her on-line?

Hi Sue! You haven't confirmed or booked the stay until you pay. As Amber said, you would click the "Book it now" page and process payment, which would confirm the booking.

commented answer If my dog stays overnight and it ends up being over 24 hrs, do i pay for one overnight and one day of daycare?

We didn't sign up with it, it happened after we had been on the site for a while. I needed to go out of town but was still getting asked by regulars if I could watch their dogs for that weekend - instead of turning them away, I asked my clients if it was alright with them that Mike took care of their pets that weekend since (1) they all knew him, (2) he had always been around when their pets had stayed and (3)was technically my partner in the Rover business. Because of Rover TOS, if a stay was booked through my account, we would need his name on my profile, as well.

answered a question If my dog stays overnight and it ends up being over 24 hrs, do i pay for one overnight and one day of daycare?

It truly depends on the sitter - technically, an overnight booking is for 24 hours. Some sitters are more strict than others, so while one person may be lenient and say it's only one day, another person would charge for day care, too.

answered a question How do I handle when an owner misrepresented their dog?

First thing I would do is contact the owner and ask if any of these behaviors are normal - sometimes, dogs, especially at such a young age, act differently than they would at home, as a sign of separation anxiety.

If it continues, contact Rover Support, they may be able to assist you further.

answered a question what do we do once we complete our sit?

Once the stay is completed, no further actions are required on your part. You simply wait for the funds to be released to your account (48 hours from the date of the stay)

answered a question Are there background checks for owners?

Based on some harassment I have received from another sitter and her boyfriend in my area, I have reason to believe that the valid phone number/address is not enough to really serve as a background safe guard for sitters. Anyone can create a "fake" or temporary phone number online these days, and anyone can claim a fake address within the same zip code for using a credit card.

There is absolutely no reason why a meet and greet should NOT be an option (you should ALWAYS do one) and go with your gut about a person and/or their dog prior to booking.

answered a question Question about extended stays and pricing/payment?

You probably sent out a new request for all 7 days instead of just clicking the "change dates" button in your message history with them?

answered a question Has anyone's dog ever gone missing under rover sitter?

I have never had a dog run away or go missing under my watch. Personally, I have prevented this issue by never leaving any dog outside unattended, with either my boyfriend or myself. I also have small dog tags that I put on visitors with my phone number and "I'm visiting Daniela and Mike!" on them.

answered a question Does Rover provide a 1099 for tax filling purposes to sitters?

Hi Dave:

Rover explains taxes for sitters here:

answered a question what age is a puppy considered?

It really depends on the breed, however for all intents and purposes of this website, I would agree with the above comment that 1 year old and under is generally considered a puppy - though I imagine it varies from sitter to sitter.

answered a question What type of background checks are used to screen the sitters?

I think contacting Rover HQ at (888) 453 - 7889 would be the best way to get this particular question answered, as many of us are sitters and while some of us have had our background checks done - I can't say for sure that it's "x' or "y" or even "z" background check.

Please remember that there is also the option to have someone care for your dog in their home, if trust is an issue for you!
