When do clients start booking you?

I haven't had a booking since I started Rover, I updated my profile and my availability is almost every day. Should I just wait ?

Getting those first bookings can be a challenge. Peeked your profile and it appears you may have set your service area pretty large, I recommend setting it no larger than 10 miles.

Also, you have zero reviews, that is the kiss of death, so get friends and family to submit testimonials

Hi Dee!

When I first started out, I had a hard time getting those first few clients as well. I feel like people look for sitters with a bunch of 5 stars reviews. Don't get discouraged though! It takes time but you can do it! Here's a couple things I did in the beginning that I think helped me get started:

  • Adjust your rate to be competitive in your area. Look up other sitters in your area and make your rate lower than the others. You can increase your rate later, once you have more reviews and build a steady client base.

  • Have friends and family write testimonials for you. I posted on Facebook asking friends and family to please write one for me - I think I had at least 6-7 before I started getting bookings. Although, a written testimonials do not stand out as much as an actual "verified stay" review. If you are having a really hard time getting clients, try having a friend or family member book a stay with you (you can modify the total price after booking, if you don't want to charge them), so they can leave you an actual review.

  • Make your profile inviting and show your love for animals. Add as many pictures you can find of you with dogs, even if you have to do a photoshoot just to have some - do it! Write about yourself in the profile section and elaborate on your experience with dog sitting and what the client should expect when their dog stays with you.

  • Update your calendar availability daily. This shows up for clients when looking for a sitter and it helps to have the "calendar recently updated" banner above your name.

Hopefully that helps a little! Good luck. :)
