Someone wanted to book a 6-day boarding in Sept now, should I be wary?

Yeah, so I just got a request from a new Rover user for a 6-day boarding in Sept, and it's now Feb. I feel it is just too far ahead that I politely rejected, telling the owner to contact me a month ahead. If it was someone who I have dealt with before, and they want to come back, maybe during the busy season so they want to book ahead, it might make sense, but I just feel this one is a little too far ahead. How far ahead do sitters accept requests? I have had 3 clients so far, and they were 1 - 3 weeks ahead, which sounds more reasonable to me.

Thanks

I have received requests several times for 5-8 months out. I tell the client I will pencil them in on my calendar but not book the actual request until closer to the start date. Then if someone else asks for the same time period, I contact client #1 and explain that I am getting requests and I ask them to book the stay or release it at that point. If nothing happens, about 2 months prior to the start date I message the client to confirm the stay and to tell them I will be confirming the stay from my end. It's now time for them to confirm and pay, otherwise they may lose their spot.

Many of my clients book cruises or other package vacation tours so they do make their plans a long way before the actual start date. I don't have a problem with it, I just don't want to book it until closer to the start date. Life happens, for both the owner and me.

I typically don't book farther than 2-3 months out, however some owners are planners and want to get all their ducks in a row when booking their flights/hotels/etc. I would have told the owner that you can't book that far in advance because schedules change/anything can happen in 7 months, but if they'd like to reach out to you a couple months prior you'd be happy to book it then.

I also agree with Jennifer M. If you make a good impression regarding this booking, they will likely keep you in mind for other bookings they need before then. So you can schedule a M&G and remind them that anytime they need a walk/drop-in/short weekend trip to ask you, and hopefully solidify your spot as their regular!
