Why does my dog howl when I howl?
This is a question that we often get from sitters and owners who work with Rover. Help the community out by answering them in our forum!
Dog howling, like any other form of vocal expression, has no fixed meaning. It is situation-dependent. Since in this case, the dog is doing it while you are, it sounds like the dog felt the two of you were singing together.
Dogs are pack animals and you as an owner are part of the pack so, like wolves, when the leader or another pack mate starts to howl they can potentially begin to howl as well.
Think of a dogs howl as a wolfs howl. A majority of the time they do it to communicate. So we they hear you do it their response would be to howl back to communicate.
