Maybe not. Pork sausage is not a recommended source of protein for your dog given it’s high in fat and salt, and it may be processed with seasonings that are unsafe for your dog. Undercooked or contaminated sausage puts your dog at risk for severe illness because of a parasite infection called Trichinosis.
In addition, sausage that contains onion or garlic powder is not safe for your dog. Dogs that eat onion or garlic in any form are at risk for anemia.
Symptoms to Watch For
If your dog consumes contaminated sausage, watch for these symptoms:
- Nausea
- Loss of appetite
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Lethargy
