Our dog had a great stay with Nicole and her family. This was the first time we have left our dog for a longer period of time (two weeks,) and Nicole provided excellent care and updated us on our dog, which we loved. Our pup had so much fun we had to convince her to come home! I would highly recommend, we couldn’t be happier. Thank you again!

We were very happy to have Renae watch our pup and love on him. We really relaxed on our vacation knowing that Buddy was in good hands. We will definitely have Renae watch our Buddy in the future.

About: I've been taking care of dogs since I was 12, it started with my sister's dog and I've slowly expanded to neighbors and friends loving pets! Im good with knowing their body language so I know how to react appropriately. Im used to long walks with dogs. I make sure the dog is happy. Im a part time photographer so I'm almost always home! I do school online so I won't be gone during the day. I have time for 2-3 walks a day, lots of play time. I have a fenced yard to let them out if it's an emergency or if they just want to run. I take dogs on 2-3 walks a day depending on what the dog wants. I let dogs sleep with me in my bed, I love cuddling on the couch as well. I love playing tug of war. If the dog gets messy while at my house I will give them a bath. If brushing is part of their routine I will gladly do that! I love playing with pets! They will have all my attention unless they want to be left alone.

Poor David! And poor Ziggy! Our pup got sick over the weekend. (Not the fault of the family; he only ate what we sent.) We were kept informed how he was doing and were able to head home a little early. It's a holiday or we'd be at the vet right now. P.S. Thirty percent is the maximum Rover tip even for above and beyond service!

About: love senior dogs, they need special love, but all animals need love, I am home most of the time and my two small dogs would love to have a new fur friend to play with now and then live alone and only leave my home two mornings a week, seldom otherwise, pet care would give me a little something more to look forward to they have the run of the house, have a doggy door, I sit outside with them, play ball, have toys and plenty of beds and blankets?

We highly recommend Shanna! We have a shy shelter dog who is slow to warm up, so we were nervous to leave him somewhere new. Shanna took great care of him! He had a blast playing with her 2 sweet dogs and came home in great spirits. Thank you Shanna!

We needed care for a family emergency and didn't have a lot of time to spare, so we added the drop off service. Amanda picked up our dog, dealt with his medication, and he didn't even go on his usual hunger strike. We didn't get to meet her, so I sent a lot of texts and she was very responsive. This was my first time to use Rover and everything went very well.

Highly Recommend! Our dog had the best time at Carol and Brian's house this weekend! They sent us lots of photos of our happy smiling dog. I selected Carol and Brian because I was unsure about how our girl would respond to being without us for the firsttime. It was clear from reviews that Carol and Brian know how to deal with a wide range of doggy behaviors-- and seeing them in action was awesome. They gave us some training tips that we can use on our own. They have a warm and welcoming home in which our dog could be her best self. Thank you Carol and Brian!

About: I’ve had dogs my entire life. I absolutely love animals especially dogs. I’ve trained all my personal dogs with basic commands. Let’s talk I’m currently retired and spend all day at home in the house and in my yard. My dogs go outside every hour for potty and play every hour unless I’m gone. I take my girls out first thing in the morning I walk out behind garage near orchard to let them go potty. They eat and then play and go back outside with me only as I don’t have fenced yard and want to be sure they go out back. They are placed in crate when I am not home for their safety and typically sleep there during the night or in bed with me. They go outside every hour to potty and run.

Andrew and Katie were AWESOME to work with! Very compassionate and dedicated to allowing Mabel the best stay ever. Mabel was so comfortable with both of them right at the beginning, which is unusual for our timid/anxious Newfy. Great communication, sent pictures often, asked appropriate questions. We HIGHLY recommend them and would not hesitate to have Mabel stay there again.

About: I love dogs! Im looking to fill some of my free time, so here I am. Have dog sat growing up & grew up in a household full of dogs from all walks of life, grande to very little. I live in a cozy home with a front and back yard in pendleton, with 3 awesome pets of my own, my dog Xena, and my cats Boots & Frankie. Xena is a very loving, social and playful little girl who gets along with everyone. Frankie and Boots like to keep to themselves but are also very loving. I get the feeling of leaving, knowing your pet isn't going to be getting attention or walks that they need. If you need, I am available to ease your mind! Currently working part time so I have the time a few days a week to help out with your fur baby/babies. Here for the walks and pets, can do baths and brushings and in general keep them company I have a fenced yard and a kennels if needed. Many pet beds, a cat tree and plenty of toys. We have a very friendly doggo named Xena, she is a chiweenie and loves to make new friends. If needed she knows how to keep to herself. I also have two friendly cats, although they will take their time getting to know anyone new.

About: I have experience rehabilitating dogs previously used in research/laboratory/testing (think shy, undersocialized dogs with no training). Experience with epilepsy, IVDD, mobility devices, medication administration (including oral, nasal and rectal administration), and am willing to learn more! I have a Subaru Forester with lots of room making it a great dog taxi! My house is single level and almost all carpet and I have ramps I can put out for couches and beds for pets who ought not be jumping or have a hard time with traction. I’d love to learn about your pet and their needs and how I can help make their life better and your life a little less stressful knowing they’re in great hands!

FAQs for Boarding - Athena

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of August 2026, there are 34 sitters on Rover offering Dog Boarding across Athena. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Every sitter has their own rhythm and routine, but most will follow the flow that keeps your dog happiest. Sitters can give meals on your dog's regular schedule, provide a comfortable place for sleep, and plenty of one-on-one attention.

Sitters may also include daily walks in the neighborhood during your dog's boarding stay. You can also request photo and message updates throughout so you can see which local landmarks or neighborhoods your dog is enjoying.

If your dog is a little shy, consider booking a one-night trial stay! This practice run can boost your and your dog’s confidence before your trip.

Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their Athena home-away-from-home, we recommend packing:

  • Health and safety essentials such as their ID tags, vaccination records, medication, and emergency vet or secondary caregiver contacts.
  • Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.
  • Special instructions such as a list of training cues, medical administration needs, or favorite hang-out spots in your Athena.

Tip: You can upload your dog’s routine and medical info directly onto their profile so your sitter always has the details at their fingertips.

You and your Athena sitter can schedule drop-off and pick-up in a way that works best for the both of you—and your dog. Most sitters offer flexible times for drop-off and pick-up but the easiest way to confirm those times will be through in-app messaging. Confirm your arrival time the day of pick-up and drop-off can also help keep the process smooth and organized.

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.

Many sitters in OR ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.

By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
