About: To comfort any animal brings comfort to myself. I have experience with all kinds of pets and love all animals but cats are what you’d find in my home. It’s a common misconception that cats don’t require much attention but as a domesticated animal they thrive on human companionship while also having many natural instincts to accommodate. Some require more attention than others depending on their personality. One of the most important instincts to satisfy is the need to hunt/play. There are some automatic or interactive toys that work well but for the most part the best toy is something on the end of a string attached to a wand/rod and their human’s participation. This way you can mimic the evasive movements of an actual prey for your cat to hunt. This provides exercise and stimulation and I would be happy to play with your cat(s) I’m very good at befriending anxious or less trusting cats and identifying the things that exacerbate their anxiety and finding solutions to comfort them. I also have experience administering medications. With a cat the easiest route of administration is a liquid solution mixed in with some wet food or treat or squirted into the back side of the mouth with an oral syringe. Giving a cat a pill can be more difficult but it can be done. I would wrap them in a towel or blanket, lubricate pill so it doesn’t stick to fingers or tongue, tilt head back and insert pill into back of the mouth, return head to level position and rub their throat and/or slightly blow on the nose to stimulate swallowing reflexes, then give them a treat and love them! When possible I scoop our 3 cats’ boxes after every use. I’m happy to clean and scoop your cat’s box(es) with the same vigilance. A clean litter box is one factor in ensuring a healthy and happy cat!

I have worked with all kinds of dog, both in terms of breeds and behaviors. I was also the head trainer and a manager of one of the largest boarding facilities in Vermont, Oh My Dog. I'm very familiar with all the different personalities and needs that come with pets - from shy seniors to high-energy pups - and I love letting dogs be dogs so they can live their best life! I offer baths, nail trims/grinding, and I have plenty of experience administering medication. I'm comfortable with all sizes, breeds, and temperaments, and I bring lots of love, patience, and understanding to every visit. I recently moved to this beautiful rural area from a big city, and I service a large surrounding area. *For visits over 10 miles* from my home, rates will need to be adjusted to reflect a travel fee to cover gas/time, but I'm happy to work with you to figure out what's fair. I'm also very flexible with dates and times, including weekends, holidays, and last-minute requests when I can. My children may be with me sometimes, but they're very good with animals. I will do anything to ensure health and happiness for your pets even if it is merely sitting with them and providing company and love. I have experience with administering medication, dog walks, continuing a training regimen set by owner or introducing new behavioral solutions, caring for high anxiety animals with patience and gentleness. Also I have experience in caring for geriatric and special needs animals: diaper changing, getting pets in and out of wheelchairs, and care and cleaning for incontinence. I’m currently working Monday through Friday 6:00am to 2:00pm, I get an hour lunch from 11:00 to 12:00pm so I could check on animals during lunch and then of course be with them at all times outside of this work schedule, I’m off Saturday and Sunday. I will be offering all services except for boarding in my own home because present circumstances prevent me from doing so. If I sit for you in your home I will treat it with the utmost respect and abide by any and all guidelines you provide including cleaning up after any pet incident, bathing, playtime, etc.

Before moving to Chattanooga, I cared for the same family’s dog for over two years, building a strong bond with both the pup and the family. I’ve also worked as a nanny, where I was responsible not only for the children but also for their family dog—making sure they were walked, fed, and loved. I have a half an acre fenced backyard, so plenty of space for your pet(s) to run around and play. Clean dog beds, and if preferred for sleeping, crates with beds for all sizes. “It was love at first sight for Lex when I took him to meet Shelly and her Pups. the dogs bonded almost immediately. I received so many pictures and videos of Lex while he was staying with her that it felt like i was there with him. fast forward 4 days as I picked him up, i could tell he was sad to leave his new friends but was thoroughly exhausted and has been trying to rest up for the past 24 hours. needless to say, next time we need a sitter we'll be using Shelly again as she spoiled him more than we do at home. long walks, frequent trips to the dog park, sight seeing....the works.”
