About: I have had many different animals my entire life including cats, ferrets, chinchillas, chickens, ducks, hamsters, rabbits… In my 20’s I founded “Not Just Pets, Professional Pet Care”. “She is the one if you have a cat/cats! So this was my first Rover experience and I didn’t have anything to compare it to other than having a friend check on our cat while we were gone. I haven’t gone away longer than a couple days since having Hunter because I worry about him being stressed and confused. If you love a cat/cats, you know how it is. We want to take them with, but it is even more stressful and sometimes dangerous for some of them. As far as Victoria goes, she has set the bar really high and I only want her to pet sit for us for as long as she is on here. Our meet and greet went well and her energy was very pet friendly and warm. My cat can be a weirdo about changes and new people, but he did approach and smell her during that initial meeting. While we were away she took great care of him and sent photos which helped us to relax and enjoy our time. We really lucked out and I hope good people continue to sign up to do this service especially for us cat owners. Rover itself was easy to use and I think the fee (separate from the daily rate) is fair as of 10/2024 because the ease of finding someone, reading reviews, entering payment info, messaging, and photos. My experience with pets starts in high school when I volunteered at the local animal shelter cleaning out kennels, grooming and playing with cats and dogs. About: I grew up with dogs as family pets and have always considered myself a “dog person.” My family had a sheepdog, a black lab, and a Scottish sheepdog, which helped shape my lifelong love for animals. About 30 years ago, I met my wife, a true cat person through and through, and over time I happily transitioned into becoming a devoted cat lover as well. Over the years, my wife and I have shared life with three cats, even taking them on leash walks around the neighborhood—yes, I am proudly that person now. Bella, my 18-year-old super senior cat, just lost her struggle with kidney disease and we miss her dearly. My wife and I spoil our animals all the time. Our cats have always been like children to us and the bonds we build with our animals over the years have been deeply meaningful. I believe animals teach unconditional love, friendship, and have a beautiful way of offering comfort exactly when it’s needed most. In addition to caring for my own pets, I have spent years looking after neighbors’ chickens, rabbits, dogs, cats, hamsters, and even a rat! After 13 years of teaching English at a nearby Early College, I recently retired from education and am excited to begin this new chapter with Rover. I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit.
