About: I grew up on a farm with a variety of animals. I’ve hosted many types of foster animals from the Lawrence Humane society. I am comfortable with caring for all types of animals! I work full time as a police officer. However when I am working my boyfriend is home to take care of any animals we are hosting. I am available for walks anytime Saturday, Sunday and Mondays. I can walk pets in the evenings every other day of the week. I have a fenced yard and have two crate trained, pet friendly dogs. Although I can't say I've taken care of every breed out there (doubt that many people can) I have definitely seen my fair share of mutts and purebreds alike; from Corgis to Chihuahuas, Danes to Dobermans, Lhasa Apsos to Shar Peis, and even a couple of wolves (3/4 mixes) as well as a few rodents, cats, reptiles, arachnid and birds. Big or small I love "em all, but if you forced me to pick a favorite I'd have to go with the affectionate yet intimidating Perro de Presa Canario. About: Located on 10 acres in rural Hoyt, Kansas, Hughes & Hounds provides a spacious safe haven for your furry family members. Our set-up, previously used for dog breeding, includes two (working on three) spacious backyard pens that are the full package deal, including: big shade trees, big water bowls, a doggie igloo and free doggie treats (if you approve of course!). Please note that our dog daycare and boarding services are OUTDOOR ONLY and really for farm/outside dogs, bigger dogs, or dogs with high energy. We will accept any sized dog as long as they’re used to staying outside during the day! With two young kids in the home, we will only bring your dogs inside if the owner provides a crate and only if requested for night time (with the exception of severe weather where they would be crated indoors as well). I work a few afternoons a week, so I will be able to check on your furry pals often during their week & weekend stays with us. We are flexible and want to make sure your wishes are heard. So if you want us to play with your dogs, send you pictures, give treats - we are here for it. But if your dog prefers to not be bothered too much and is good with the essentials - we are here for that too. You tell us how we can provide the most comfortable atmosphere for your dogs. As far as experience goes, I've been a dog sitter on and off from elementary school through college and have volunteered lots of hours to our local shelter.... I love dogs and they're in good hands! :) This is a NEW and fun business adventure for our small family and we do not take it lightly! I only work a few afternoons a week, and my husband gets home before me during those days, so there’s only about 3-4 hour stretches of time we would be gone during the week. Due to this, we feel confident that we can take good care of your dog(s) while they stay here. Since we have the space we thought "why not?" when it came to the idea of dog boarding. We were not using our back 3 pens, other than allowing our dogs to roam them. There were some escape artists when the pens were originally used for breeding, so safety features include covered corners so dogs are unable to climb up and out using the corner fencing. Cement was also laid around the boundaries of the pens so digging cannot occur. If your dog likes to jump fences that would be a concern and a reason why we may not be a good fit for you. Of course, plenty of cold, fresh water will always be available to your dog(s) during their stay.

About: Hello!! My name is Maisy. I have worked in various different animal related jobs for the last 5 years, I worked at a doggie daycare/boarding facility and I currently am a dog trainer. I have experience with both puppies and elderly dog as well as cats, reptiles, birds, and farm animals. I also am open to limited contact boarding for people reacting dogs and can do crate rotation for dog reactive dogs away from mine. I work in the evenings 4 days a week so I spend the mornings/afternoons out playing with the pups then they take naps in kennels while I’m at work and we play some more when I get home. I also can move my dogs kennels out of the “dog room” and your dog can just stay in there instead of a kennel if they are more comfortable that way. I have 5 dogs that are very active and friendly. I got another text from Maisy the next morning to let me know how Rugy had done during the night. I really appreciated the update. This was the first day of my vacation, so I was not able to get Ruby myself, but my daughter got her. She said Ruby was glad to see her but would also have gone back to play with the other dogs if she had been allowed to : ) I will happily ask Maisy to look after her again when the need arises. Sorry this is so long in coming, but I only returned from my trip yesterday.”
About: A dog has always been in my house growing up, except when I moved to lawrence to go to school/work. I learned to take care of dogs since I could walk. My first dog was a German Shepard. I learned how to brush, clean, feed, and exercise around 6 years old and have loved dogs ever since. From middle school until now I had a side gig of watching extended family/ friends dogs for the weekends, so I have worked with all types of dogs such as pit bulls, labs, Rottweilers, shorthairs, boxers, huskies, and I also have experience with small dog breeds such as pugs, terrors, mini poodles, and chihuahuas. So don’t worry about what breed of dog you have I am open to all kinds!
