Whether it's a midday walk, an evening check in, or a weekend stay, I treat every pet like they're part of my own routine, not an interruption to it. In my own home, I keep a calm, consistent environment — set feeding times, regular potty breaks, and plenty of one-on-one attention so pets feel settled quickly rather than anxious. I keep spaces pet-proofed and give dogs enough exercise throughout the day that they're relaxed, not restless. When I'm in a client's home, I follow their routine exactly as given — same food, same schedule, same walk routes if provided — because consistency matters most to pets when their owner is away. I send photo/video updates so owners can see their pet is comfortable, and I treat the home with the same respect and care I'd want for my own space: doors locked, mail collected if asked, and everything left exactly as I found it. For walks, I stay attentive and present the whole time — no distractions, leash secure, watching for other animals or hazards. For sitting or drop-ins, I make sure water, food, and any medication schedules are followed precisely, and I always leave a note or message summarizing the visit.
