Pet care experience

Former Vet Tech- now a Pet Sitter!

Hi! My name is Vanessa. I am a loving, part time stay at home mom with a passion for dogs. My husband is a dog trainer and together we have fostered 50 deserving rescue dogs to adoption over the last 7 years with Poor Paws Rescue. I have three years of experience as a veterinary technician. I have one year of handler experience working with Merlin’s KIDS, a nonprofit organization that trains service dogs for veterans and disabled children. I have a diverse background in animal care, a degree in animal science, and it has given me skills to handle skittish dogs and special needs medical cases (including diabetic pets and others that need medication). Although my husband is a trainer, training is not included in the stay, however evaluations for training may be arranged upon request. We have two human children, 6 and 2 years old, who love animals. Your pet will be a part of the family with us- a home away from home.

Our sitter was absolutely amazing! We had so much unexpected chaos during our trip from our original sitter canceling, to our flight being rerouted to Cleveland because of a storm. Through all of it, she was incredibly patient, understanding, and flexible. She made a very stressful situation so much easier for us by taking such great care of our dog, Lola. She kept us updated with messages and pictures, which gave us peace of mind knowing Lola was happy and well cared for. We are so grateful for her kindness, patience, and understanding throughout everything that happened. She truly went above and beyond, and we would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for someone they can trust with their fur baby! ❤️🐾

We were very happy with Vanessa watching our dog Pepper. Pepper really enjoyed herself. Pepper came home very happy so I know she was well taken care of with Vanessa. Vanessa is a very caring person. Just having a conversation with her you know that she is a very compassionate person and caring. We will definitely book Pepper again with Vanessa. Thank you for caring for our Pepper!

Vanessa was great with our dog. She was communicative and gave us regular updates on how our dog was doing. Would be happy to have her watch our dog again.

Our dog Louis has the best time whenever he stays at Vanessa's home. She is the best sitter, very attentive and caring. I highly recommend her!!

This was the longest Zephyr has ever been away from me. He had such a great time with an easy transition home!

Schedule

Every morning, I am awake early with the kids. Any dogs staying with us go outside first (either on a leashed walk or in our dog run, which is fully fenced and 6ft high) before we have breakfast together. On good weather days, we go out mid morning/early afternoon, and take a third bathroom break in the evening around dinner time. We take the time to play at least once a day, even on the busy days.

Safety, trust & environment

I have a fully fenced in backyard, as well as extra crates. We do crate all dogs at night or whenever they are not being supervised for their own safety. I can also arrange pick up or drop offs to your home for an additional fee, whatever is more convenient for you and your pup.

A typical day

We can take walks around town, go to the local park, or even visit the local dog park if you wish. If the social life isn’t for your pet, we can always spend one on one time together at home.

0 to 15 lbs
16 to 40 lbs
41 to 100 lbs
Dogs over 1 year old
Non-neutered males accepted, spayed females only
No females in heat
Crate-trained dogs only
Vanessa can host up to 3 pets per night
I’d need to know of any special needs, dietary restrictions, or triggers for your pet. Examples include other dogs, cats, or children. If your dog is not other dog friendly, not a problem, we have a large enough place to house them separate safely. Meet and greets are available upon request and are held at a local public dog park, as recommended by Rover. If you are curious about my home, I am happy to host a video tour.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
