I work from home full time, and am with the pets all the time! Dog walks are a normal part of my daily routine to get steps outside the house. I also spend time each day playing with the animals in the backyard. Some days, I drive out of our neighborhood to a nearby urban trail where we can beat the usual scenery. Pet care and play is a normal part of every day for me!

Safety, trust & environment

My home is quite secure for pets. I have multiple bedrooms and doors/baby gates that can be used to separate spaces if needed, and my back yard is fully fenced (wood fence, 6 ft tall). Before going into the backyard, I do require my dog to sit and wait to be released (even with door open). I am happy to maintain similar training routines with your dog if you have them! For day care and boarding clients, I do require dogs to be crate trained and be dropped off with their crate. We don’t use the crates often since I’m normally home during visits, but if I do have to step away for any reason this ensures their safety until I can be fully present.

Information Sydney C. would like to know about your pet

Understanding your dog's personality and unique needs is helpful to make the best possible experience. I have a lot of experience with sensitive dogs, but it helps to know in advance what situations or triggers can cause reactions, as well as your preferred approaches to mitigating these reactions. Also, if your dog has favorite treats, activities, or toys, I can try to plan those into our time together.

A typical day

Sacramento has some great parks for walking. McKinley and Land Park are favorites. My dog and I also frequent Glenn Hall Park and the levees near the river, as well as the American River Parkway. We enjoy state parks and try to get out on a hike or long walk in one of our close state parks on the weekends, though I try to avoid areas that have a lot of foxtails when they're in season.

Pet care experience

I grew up around animals; cats, dogs, birds, and fish were normals at our house! I got my first cat at age 6, and my first dog (Wheaten terrier mix) at age 12 - although I was still a kid, I was responsible for his training and completed multiple obedience courses with him. Later, in college, I rescued my first border collie (BC) after fostering several dogs for a local rescue. That experience got me hooked on herding dogs for many years, and I pursued a number of canine-human activities with my BC including sheep herding, agility, and AKC training. I'm now an experienced dog trainer who focuses on positive reinforcement to deliver consistent results (most recently used to de-sensitize my shelter-rescued Australian Cattle Dog from sounds and stimuli that at first overwhelmed her). My home includes my dog (55 lb female Australian Cattle dog, about 9 years old) and occasionally a domestic shorthair cat who I have part-time custody of. The cat and dog get along very well with each other. My dog is happiest with dogs her size or smaller, and the cat adapts well too; she's not afraid to greet new dogs who are not visibly aggressive toward her. I've also dog and cat-sat for friends and family across the US over the past decade, including walks, feeding, baths (where applicable) and play! I try to take lots of photos while sitting to update pet parents too.

Sydney was wonderful with our cat! She left a detailed note after each visit to provide an update on how my cat was doing. I really appreciated this while I was out of town. I would recommend Sydney!

Sydney was responsive and highly communicative, and great with my large, reactive dog! Really appreciate her and will book again!

So caring, sweet, and attentive to my baby’s anxious tics and made her feel nice and comfortable with a new face. Thanks so much!
