Hello! My name is Summer James. I provide high-quality, experienced care for dogs in a calm, structured environment where they can feel safe, understood, and engaged. I have years of hands-on experience with dogs of all kinds—from high-energy puppies to seniors and special-needs rescues. I’ve worked in a professional vet setting, volunteered with the Humane Society, and fostered many dogs through rescue groups. I’m also very comfortable with medication, supplements, basic training, and attentive care for dogs with behavioral sensitivities.

This was my first time using Rover to board my dog. I came across Summer on my first search, and there is no doubt in my mind that I made THE BEST decision. I love how thorough she is in getting to know my dog and his routine. She made sure that I had lots of pictures and videos throughout the stay. There is no doubt in my mind that we will be staying with Summer again in the future!
Summer is fantastic!! She took great care of my fur baby, and Nixa had a great time. Tons of pics and videos - we will make visits to stay with Summer a regular thing!

Once again, Summer took wonderful care of our Benji and he had the time of his life playing with sweet Cora and Summer. As we viewed all the great photos Summer sent us of Benji and Cora playing together, I was thinking that Benji probably will not want to come home with us when we arrive to pick him up. He always is so well treated and cared for by Summer. She is amazing!!! Benji cannot wait til the next time he gets to spend time with Cora and Summer. Also, we are always happy when Summer is able to keep Benji when we cannot take him with us when we leave town.

Dogs enjoy a structured environment with plenty of outdoor playtime, restful downtime, and personalized interaction. I carefully monitor behavior and playgroups to maintain harmony and prevent stress. When I visit a pet in their own home, I follow your routines closely to keep things familiar. I treat your home with respect and your pet like one of my own—making sure they feel safe, loved, and understood in your absence. A typical day at my camp house on the river feels like a blend of structure, play, and peaceful moments—designed to help your dog feel safe, happy, and right at home. Mornings begin with potty breaks and breakfast, followed by outdoor time to burn off energy—whether that’s playing fetch, exploring the yard, or enjoying the sunshine by the river. Throughout the day, your dog will have the companionship of my chocolate lab, Cora. She’s well-socialized, playful, and a great role model during outdoor time and training sessions. I spend a lot of time outside with Cora—working on recall, reinforcing commands, and playing fetch (including in the river, where she loves retrieving her ball). Dogs who join us benefit from that same structure, energy, and fun. The day includes a healthy mix of active play, rest periods, and one-on-one attention. I use structured activities to help reinforce manners and basic commands, keeping dogs mentally and physically engaged. Dogs who enjoy water play may get a chance to splash under supervision, weather permitting. Meals are served at consistent times, and I keep a close eye on behavior, energy levels, and comfort throughout the day. In the evenings, we wind down with a final potty break, soft lighting, and a peaceful settling-in routine to ensure everyone sleeps soundly. No two dogs are the same, so I adjust the pace and activities to fit each pet’s age, personality, and needs.

Because I’m home most of the time, I’m able to give consistent attention, provide close supervision, and make sure every animal in my care feels safe, calm, and supported.
