I've taken care of my auntie's dog as a child for a lot of my life, and then my own dog later on. Crate training her from a puppy up until she was 3 years old.

I'd play with them for most of the day, I can never get bored around a pet. If it's warm I'd do my best to keep them cool with some ice and let them rest if they need it.
